PURPOSE OF POSITION:
- This person will lead the day-to-day operations of Iowa Select Farms' commercial research trials, ensuring that all activities follow protocols established by internal and external partners.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write up and maintain all trial protocols
- Implement all commercial research trials
- Collect and analyze data from research trials
- Write up and present all executive summaries
- Oversight of all Intern and student research projects
- Monitor overall health of pigs involved in trials and communicate with Staff Veterinarian & Supervisor on proper care and treatment of pigs.
- Record all appropriate data routinely in accordance with trial protocols.
- Maintain accurate written and computer records as required by trial protocols.
- Supervise all research personnel including Research Tech, research Assistant, graduate students, interns, and part-time labor to complete tasks through effective evaluation, discipline, and termination practices.
- Understand and operate Automated Feed delivery system.
- Computer knowledge/ skills- able to run reports, data entry, email, word documents, excel documents, and able to navigate the tools site to be able to find important company documents.
- Responsible to understand and troubleshoot alarm systems and calls and ensure a response is initiated for 100% of these calls.
- Data entry for farm- including vaccinations, tools systems, feed order, and environmental.
- Identify animals needing timely euthanasia.
- Complete euthanasia process according to ISF protocols.
- Responsible for ensuring employees work in a safe manner and use personal protective equipment (PPE) when required, keeping employees motivated to perform at a high level to achieve production results and ensure all employees are being trained.
- Collaborate with other departments within the company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position requires daily collaboration with production staff, veterinarians and other team members. Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential to this role.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position will have duties in all facilities of Iowa Select Farms so employees will need to be comfortable working in and being exposed to all facility environments.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.
- The environment you will be working in may have nuisance levels of gases and dust, particularly in the winter months
PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds along with climbing up ladders and over gates.
- The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks.
- Direct contact with animals may occur, so company bio-security practices must be understood and always practiced.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
- This is a full-time position that will typically require at least 40 hours a week.
- Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges.
- Weekend and holiday rotations are a requirement.
- Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as the job duties demand.
TRAVEL
- Local travel will be required for this position through the utilization of a company vehicle.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, with fluency in both written and verbal communication is preferred
- Education/ Experience: Previous experience in swine production operations is desired with an interest in swine research and a general ability to follow protocols and given attention to detail
