Job Summary:
Provides a region-wide, strategic focus, which influences all aspects of inpatient and/or ambulatory nursing services through leadership of Regional peer groups, partnership with cross-entity leaders & collaboration with medical center CNEs/CNOs. Collaborates in the development & execution of the organization strategic plans, while providing quality care & managing cost-effective services that align with federal, state & local regulations, as well as aligning with the mission vision & philosophy of Kaiser Permanente.
Essential Responsibilities:


  • Primarily accountable for one of the following areas: Regional Clinical Adult Services, Maternal Child Health Services, Perioperative Services.

  • Collaborates with medical center management in identifying & implementing innovative nursing or staffing models & best practices.

  • Ensures coordinated plans of treatment, patient focused delivery of Services & cost-effective utilization and care.

  • Develops, implements, and monitors departmental policy and procedures which support the organizations goals and business objectives and ensures they are met.

  • Develops & implements safety & quality strategies to assure an exceptional care experience.

  • Provides clinical & professional oversight for areas of accountability. Ensures successful implementation of other organizational strategies.

  • Collaborate in development of strategic plan for the recruitment, retention & workforce development of targeted nursing & allied health personnel.

  • Utilizes research & Best Practices data to implement & expedite progressive clinical changes & to continually improve the delivery of patient care & member services.

  • Supports financial performance metrics by identifying & implementing regional strategies.

  • Integrates advanced leadership knowledge & practices.

  • Represents Regional leadership on committees, work groups, & initiatives as it pertains to their line of service.

  • Models, mentors, & inspires evolved leadership practices.

  • Serves as expert consultant & resource to the CNE/CNO Peer Group, KFH/HP and SCPMG leadership, physicians, and staff.

  • Oversees the data collection and analysis of nursing quality indicators, collaborates with service area and medical center leadership to review trend data and performance improvement focus, and monitors follow-up action plans to achieve organizational goals.

  • Oversees and develops standards of care and standards of practice, directs fiscal management, and quality improvement activities.

  • Hires, fires, performs disciplinary actions, recommends employee training and development, and conducts performance assessments for assigned administrative staff.

  • Responsible for department budget compliance and performance to objectives.

  • Monitors financial performance and identifies and implements strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of care/service.

  • Ensures that client and organizational needs are met consistently.

  • Provides leadership in the development and dissemination of best practices across regional departments.

  • Establishes effective working relationships with peers both internal and external to Kaiser Permanente.

  • Fosters a customer-oriented work environment with emphasis on dedication to helping customers, respect for individuals, highest standards of quality, innovation, empowerment, and teamwork by developing and implementing policies and practices that reflect the vision of Kaiser Permanente.


Basic Qualifications:
Experience

  • Minimum six (6) years nursing experience in the area of specialty.

  • Minimum two (2) years experience to be inclusive in a management/leadership role.

  • Minimum two (2) years experience in team building, conflict resolution, group interaction, project management, and budget management.


Education

  • Masters degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Public Health Administration, or other related field required.


License, Certification, Registration

  • Certified in Executive Nursing Practice OR Nurse Operating Room Certificate OR Nurse Executive Advanced Certificate OR Nurse Executive Board Certificate OR Certified Nurse Manager and Leader Certification



  • Registered Nurse License (California)


Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to determine the key business issues and develop appropriate action plans from multidisciplinary perspectives.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead professionals through influence and collaboration.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of TJC, NCQA, Nurse Practice Act, professional association standards, federal, state, and other regulatory standards, requirements, and guidelines related to quality improvement, patient safety & applicable nursing practice.

  • Strong working knowledge of ongoing monitoring techniques (including criteria development and statistical analysis); medical care delivery in hospital and outpatient settings; and total quality management principles, tools, and techniques.

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

  • Some travel will be required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Director level experience in area of specialty.

  • Leadership experience in progressively more challenging roles in academic or other complex clinical settings.

  • ANCC Certification Ambulatory Care Nurse
