Job Summary

Reporting directly to the K-12 Director of Curriculum and Educator Growth (or designee), the Senior Learning and Teaching Design Consultant (SLTDC) leads and adds value to support a range of long- and short-term strategies through the development/planning, implementation, monitoring and communications of key initiatives of Hālau ʻIeʻie, the learning and teaching engine of our campus dual-operating system. The SLTDC oversees complex educational digital systems to support personalized learning for teachers and students. Uses quantitative and qualitative data to improve the student learning experience.

Essential Responsibilities

Project Planning/Facilitation

  • Leads project planning to support K-12 learning and teaching discussions and work groups that establish project objectives, scope, risk mitigation, high-level timelines, cost-benefit analysis, project milestones and detailed work plans. 
  • Leads the management of projects using project management methodology and tools. 
  • Leads the planning, organizing, and conducting of educational research for use in understanding educational issues and developing solutions to improve educational programs.
  • Works in collaboration with the Senior Learning Strategy Consultant to lead data collection and analysis to meet KS Hawaiʻi Strategic Goals. 
  • Manages complex project planning and tracking through implementation, budgeting, and reporting to achieve KS Hawaiʻi Strategic Goals.
  • Coordinates collection and access to necessary resources needed for design and/or implementation. 
  • Applies quality criteria to ensure alignment to project goals and campus strategic plan. 
  • Identifies risks associated with product design that are not fully within the project's control, but are important to success.
  • Mitigates identified risks by proactively identifying problems and critically evaluating solution.

Educational Design and Process Management

  • Leads feasibility studies and works with leaders to develop recommendations for implementation of new educational digital systems for K-12 learning coherence.
  • Leads educational design discussions and takes ownership of milestones/tasks that support improving the student experience. 
  • Analyzes, optimizes, and looks for process improvement opportunities.
  • Collaboratively designs, re-engineers, and implements process improvements. 
  • Analyzes multiple systems and seeks ways to integrate systems for efficiency and effectiveness within the learning environment. 
  • Designs, oversees, and maintains technical solutions to support personalized learning for students.
  • Oversee multiple technical solutions to support decision making for educators.

Communication

  • As an instructional leader, responsible for providing updates regarding development of project plans, implementation, and the achievement of milestones to various stakeholders and addresses questions and feedback as appropriate. 
  • Able to successfully collaborate and communicate influentially with stakeholders on a wide range of education issues. 
  • Engages with stakeholders to review, evaluate and decide on design change requests. 
  • Leads the testing of the project efficiencies through development and execution of team-self review, peer review and live trials with educators.
  • Plans, executes, and reports evaluations of products and processes.

Training/Professional Learning

  • Designs and conducts user training for direct users as well as train-the-trainers one-on-one, in small groups, in person, over the phone, or online.
  • Creates and/or customizes training documentation to suit audience.
  • Codesigns and leads the planning, oversight and implementation of relevant K-12 professional development focused on the the advancement of ʻŌiwi Edge for E ola!

Reporting

  • Maintains recurring system reports for tracking and generates them as requested by management.
  • Generates custom system reports as needed or requested by various stakeholders.
  • Extracts data and creates custom reports using spreadsheets, graphs, and tables.
  • Monitors system activity and/or outcomes.
  • Works with data analysis to extract reports for decision making and reporting.
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Education or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience and progressive responsibility in related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of Team Lead, Functional Lead, or similar experience. Strong organizational skills to prioritize and handle complex, multiple, simultaneous projects and meet established timelines and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to understand processes and identify common cause/effect impacting a process and implement process improvements.
  • Ability to analyze and conceptualize, and to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and with highly confidential information.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, management and supervision skills to work effectively with management and staff at various levels in the organization as part of a project team.
  • Experience developing and maintaining user-friendly campus-level educational databases that are secure and accessible.
  • Proven ability to form effective collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to be flexible, learn new systems and processes as required. Strong working knowledge of and experience in automating office processes using standard office desktop applications.
  • Strong emotional quotient and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong systemic and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Effective use of data visualization methods to communicate complex results to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in related field.
  • Previous experience consulting with educators to effectively interpret data.
  • Previous experience working in an indigenous, education or nonprofit setting.
  • Knowledge of Hawaiian culture, history and/or language.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions

  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours.

Based on the compensation range provided below, salaries are commensurate with job-related experience, skills and competencies, education, internal equity, length of work year, and other organizational needs.
