Accounting Specialist
Location: Rutland, VT
Salary Range: $21.83/hour to start
Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:30AM-5:00PM
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Reporting
- Prepare and post general ledger entries
- Review and verify journal entries for accuracy
- Balance and analyze general ledger accounts
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Process and reconcile corporate card expenses
- Enter and maintain accurate vendor information
- Review invoices for proper documentation and approval
- Process payments and check requests
- Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve discrepancies
- Reconcile vendor statements
- Maintain required documentation for audits and regulatory purposes
- Respond to internal and external requests via phone, email, and in person
- Support and back up other accounting staff as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold a professional reputation in all communications
- Participate in required training and team meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
What You'll Bring
Education & Experience
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
(or equivalent experience – two years of experience for each year not completed) - 1–3 years of accounts payable experience
- Experience in a financial services or credit union environment preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Comfortable learning and using accounting-specific software
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Professional phone etiquette and interpersonal skills
- Office-based role requiring extended periods of computer use
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs occasionally
- Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance
- Daily work includes repetitive motion tasks, such as typing and phone use
