Description

Commissioning Manager (Janesville, WI)
Our client in Janesville is currently hiring a Commissioning Manager. The Commissioning Manager will independently lead and "own" the planning and execution of start-up activities for new nuclear isotopes production equipment at a facility in Janesville, WI. The first-of-a-kind NRC regulated nuclear facility is currently under construction, with construction testing activities in-progress. The Commissioning Manager will work to develop strategies and plans and coordinate activities to successfully complete all required testing and validation activities for the new facility, and transition the facility to regular operations.

They will ensure these systems are thoroughly tested, validated, and integrated with existing HVAC, electrical, and process infrastructure to meet NRC-regulated standards. Although the manager will not have a dedicated team, they will collaborate with existing engineering, construction, and quality teams as needed. The role requires a deep understanding of the nuclear industry, similar to roles in highly regulated environments, and emphasizes the critical need for nuclear knowledge to effectively manage the commissioning process in a small, supportive facility setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead Commissioning Activities: Independently manage and own the end-to-end commissioning process, ensuring timely and efficient start-up of new systems. Develop, refine, and manage a detailed plan and schedule for the commissioning of all facility systems prior to the receipt of an Operating License from the NRC, and for the initial start-up testing of the nuclear facility after the Operating License is issued.
Interface with construction and operations personnel to ensure a seamless transition between construction, component testing, facility commissioning, and operations.
Provide day-to-day direction and management of commissioning activities for the facility.
Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, construction, operations, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration and support during commissioning. Coordinate with construction, vendor, and engineering personnel to identify and expediently resolve technical issues discovered during testing. Work with quality department personnel to ensure all validation activities are completed accurately.
Provide timely updates on commissioning status to stakeholders, lead regular coordination meetings, and hold the organization accountable for schedule adherence.
System Testing and Validation: Conduct and oversee thorough testing and validation processes to verify system readiness and performance.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of all commissioning activities, test results, and compliance records, and report findings to senior management.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve potential issues during commissioning to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations.
Develop Processes: Create, refine, and implement commissioning protocols and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements:
Experience: Proven experience in commissioning management, particularly with expertise in nuclear or highly regulated cGmp environments.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of nuclear technology, systems commissioning, and integration with existing infrastructures.
Leadership Skills: Exceptional leadership and project management skills, with a track record of overseeing complex projects.
Problem-Solving Ability: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to address technical challenges during commissioning.
Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering or related technical field.
A minimum of eight (8) years' experience in complex facility commissioning, start-up, operations, construction, engineering, or similar.
Outstanding communication, conflict management, and change management skills.

Why Join:
Be part of a mission-driven project focused on cancer and heart disease diagnostics. Join a lean, high-impact team where your work directly shapes facility readiness, offering the chance to be part of a pioneering team at the forefront of sustainable nuclear technology, contributing to innovations in clean energy and medical isotope production.
