Pay Rate: $40-$45
Contract Length: 12-Months

We are seeking an electro-mechanical bioengineer with an emphasis on the bioanalytical experimentation and point of care system testing. This engineer will be part of an interdisciplinary team developing microfluidics-driven next generation immunodiagnostics platform for the point-of-care disease analysis. This individual will be versed in the experimental automation techniques and will execute bio-microfluidics research and development experiments to test and maintain a point of care system having electro-mechanical, optical, fluidics, cartridge, imaging, and immunoassay components. Day-to-day activities for this role will be to maintain the instruments, and work within a highly cross-functional team to iteratively test the new designs for immunoassays, cartridges, instrument modules, and image analysis tools in a microfluidics format. Individuals with strong experience and interests in bioanalytically testing the electro-mechanical instruments, microfluidics and optical systems, microfluidics cartridges, and immunodiagnostics are strongly encouraged to apply. This job typically requires:

  • BS with 2-3 years of experience, MS with 1-2 years of experience, or PhD with 0-1 years of experience.
  • Ability to run the bio-microfluidics research and development experiments.
  • Hands-on experimental experience in the bioanalytical testing and maintenance of the electro-mechanical, fluidics, and optical systems.
  • Ability to iteratively test the new microfluidics designs with reference to the immunoassays, cartridges, instruments, and image analysis tools.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot the bio-microfluidics experimental problems, and effectively communicate the updates within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Ability to work with the third-party collaborators to test and qualify the instrument, cartridge, and user interface modules.
  • Strong curriculum foundation or hands-on experience in the automation programming (LabView, Python, C++ etc.), electrical and mechanical instruments/systems, optical systems, fluidic cartridge manufacturing, fluid mechanics, and immunodiagnostics.
  • On-site position located at our headquarter in San Diego, CA.
  • Working alongside a wet-chemistry laboratory that processes biological samples.
  • Working with the team in identification, acquisition and testing of electro-mechanical hardware and software parts needed for the benchtop experimental automation.
  • Excellent conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to effectively communicate problems, solutions, and updates within a highly cross-functional team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detail-oriented, well-structured, and cross-disciplinary team environment.
