Job Overview:
The Lab Execution Program Lead is part of the Laboratory Execution team responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating laboratory operational processes, policies, work instructions; creating, maintaining, and updating laboratory operational systems, policies, work instructions; coordinating laboratory calibration and maintenance activities in partnership with local laboratory staffs; maintaining compliance with EHS policies; evaluating laboratory instrument, software, and service providers for laboratory use; qualifying laboratory instrument and software for laboratory use; Managing testing schedules and resource assignments; Communicating testing progress with key stakeholders; Maintaining laboratory organization budget and spending.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage worldwide team of technicians and specialists in mechanical and materials testing laboratories.
  • Develop and maintain an environment for collaboration among laboratory execution technicians and specialists across worldwide locations.
  • Responsible for harmonizing testing, calibration, and maintenance, EHS and validation processes across multiple sites
  • Responsible for executing, mentoring, and leading, laboratory execution aspects of New Product Development, Global Lifecycle Management, and/or Line Extensions projects
  • Organize laboratory-based projects, programs, or initiatives with oversight.
  • Intake test requests and assign to appropriate testing personnel based on criteria including criticality, local laboratory core capabilities, testing technical requirements.
  • Schedule testing and equipment to be performed in laboratories by lab execution team.
  • Oversees and Coordinates laboratory calibration and maintenance activities through planning/scheduling equipment PMs/calibrations and interactions with client systems for services in the lab and is responsible for calibration documentation and records.
  • Collaborate and provide effective procedural or system controls & processes to internal customers, including Functional Testing, Materials, Product Development, Marketing, Quality, Clinical and Regulatory, and Manufacturing groups, face-to-face and remotely as required.
  • Maintain laboratory operational processes & systems.
  • Interpret, apply, and participate in industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO, ASME), regulatory guidance (e.g., FDA) & internal company standards to research, development, and testing projects.
  • Plan and perform activities to advance laboratory operational process & systems simplification, harmonization, digitalization, and automation projects.
  • Demonstrate strong initiative and follow through in executing project and department responsibilities, overcoming obstacles, and balancing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Communicate and present activities to stakeholders, author reports, and scientific publications for internal and external use.
  • Mentor and train other laboratory personnel.
  • Coordinate and communicate with external partners and vendors.
  • Maintain Laboratory Compliance.

Qualifications, Required Experience and Skills:
  • Science, Engineering, or relevant technical degree:
    • Ph.D. with 2 to 4 years of related experience
    • Master's Degree with 5 to 7 years of related experience
    • Bachelor's Degree with 7 to 9 years of related experience
  • Project Management and Laboratory Mechanical Testing Experience Required.
  • Direct staff management required.
  • Experience with technical writing, procedure development, and process development including process mapping and improvement techniques.
  • The ability to review and critically assess laboratory documentation is required. History of procedure, process, or system development & hands-on laboratory experience is a plus.
  • Experience with laboratory instruments (Instron, MTS, AMTI, etc.) is required.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems or electronic laboratory notebooks is a plus (i.e., Labvantage, Labware, Biovia, etc.).
  • Training in project management techniques; either Agile, PMI, Waterfall, Six Sigma, or Product Development processes.
  • Proficiency utilizing Project Management tools (ex. Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Jira, Kanban etc.).
  • A successful track record of leading and working within a cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with PLM applications is a plus (i.e., Windchill).
  • Experience with laboratory calibration & maintenance management systems is preferred (i.e., Maximo).
  • Strong analytical skills, especially in the areas of process improvement, problem solving, and logical thinking is required.
  • Proficiency utilizing the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project etc.) is required. Familiarity with Minitab is a plus.
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts, ideas and knowledge to a diverse audience and work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to work unsupervised on assigned tasks. Strong attention to detail, demonstrated enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
  • Must be highly organized, able to work on concurrent projects and meet tight deadlines.
