Laboratory Technician
Roanoke, TX
M-F; 8am-5pm
$24-30 per hour
As a Laboratory Technician, you will be crucial to our mission by performing hands-on physical and analytical testing that ensures the quality, innovation, and sustainability of our plastic and paper-based packaging materials.
This role is ideal for a laboratory professional passionate about packaging and innovation who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Laboratory Technician executes established test methods, prepares samples, and ensures all documentation adheres to strict industry standards (ANSI, ISO, ASTM).
Testing & Analysis
- Perform routine analytical testing on polymeric and fiber-based packaging materials.
- Utilize mechanical, thermal, spectroscopic, and optical techniques for material characterization.
- Operate and maintain specialized laboratory instruments, including: DSC, TGA, FTIR, GC-MS, mechanical testing load frames, tear testers, and optical microscopes.
- Record and document all test data accurately in lab notebooks and digital systems.
- Assist senior scientists with data analysis and report generation.
- Utilize lab-scale blown film extrusion equipment to screen and evaluate plastics and produce plastic film samples.
- Prepare flexible packaging samples and analytical solutions according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain lab cleanliness, organize inventory, and ensure equipment calibration schedules are met.
- Support cross-functional teams by providing timely and accurate test results to drive product quality and continuous improvement.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Packaging Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
- 1–3 years of laboratory experience, preferably in materials or packaging testing.
- Familiarity with materials characterization techniques (mechanical, thermal, and spectroscopic) for flexible plastic and paper substrates.
- Strong attention to detail and proven ability to follow SOPs and complex technical instructions precisely.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as a highly collaborative member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general laboratory data systems.
- Direct exposure to packaging materials characterization and polymer testing.
- Basic understanding of polymer properties and processing.
