Job Summary

The Transportation Specialist is responsible for coordinating and executing inbound and outbound transportation activities for both domestic and international shipments. This includes preparing shipping documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining carrier relationships, and supporting continuous improvement within the logistics process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and manage export documents such as commercial invoices, shipper's letters of instruction, carrier waybills, and export declarations.

  • Deliver import information to brokers, monitor post-clearance status, and resolve import issues.

  • Report mandatory export data to government agencies in compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Support sales teams with pre- and post-shipment inquiries, including documentation, resolution, and customs clearance.

  • Create and maintain accurate documentation for both domestic and international shipments.

  • Screen transactions for export license determination and ensure adherence to export control laws.

  • Maintain departmental files and records in accordance with retention policies.

Qualifications Education and Certification
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Additional coursework or certification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Transportation preferred.

Experience
  • 5+ years of related experience in transportation, logistics, or shipping operations.

  • Strong knowledge of transportation operations, shipping documentation, and global logistics.

  • Familiarity with export/import compliance regulations and government reporting requirements.

Skills and Attributes
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Excellent organizational and communication abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

  • Proficiency in logistics software, Microsoft Office, and data entry systems.

  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safety and accuracy.

  • Knowledge of world geography and global transportation routes.

Additional Information
  • Position may require occasional travel.

  • Work performed under minimal supervision with significant opportunity for independent decision-making.

  • Errors in judgment may impact multiple departments and customer relationships, requiring accuracy and attention to detail at all times.
