Maintenance Mechanic – Research Facilities
**$40/hour + $4.98/hour health & welfare benefit**

Kelly Government Solutions is hiring for a maintenance mechanic on a U.S. Department of Energy contract with our customer in Menlo Park, CA.  This is a contract to hire opportunity.

Job Description:
Employees in the Maintenance Mechanic series work in research facilities performing maintenance, repair, installation, and fabrication of complex mechanical, electromechanical, and electrical systems, and equipment.  The work involves a variety of trade skills and/or specialized skills appropriate to the equipment.  There are three levels in the series, Maintenance Mechanic, Maintenance Mechanic Specialist and Maintenance Mechanic Leader.  These classifications are differentiated on the basis of the level of skill applied to the work, the complexity of the assignments, and the specialized knowledge required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working under general supervision, these employees perform skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and fabrication of machinery, vehicles, hoisting and rigging equipment, and other related systems and equipment used in a research facility.  
  • Job assignments typically are received on a task-by-task or day-by-day basis.  The employee may work alone or as a member of a crew or team.  
  • Work may be inspected during progress, or upon completion; inspection may be frequent or infrequent.
  • Maintain and repair hoisting and rigging equipment including various types of cranes, tractor/trailers, forklifts, aerial work platforms, engine generator sets, and other related equipment.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair functional parts of equipment and machinery such as compressors, gasoline and diesel engines, motors, generators, and pumps, etc.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, disassemble, service, clean, replace, rebuild, reassemble, test and install mechanical and electrical components and equipment.
  • Maintain electrical equipment up to 24 volts DC as necessary.
  • Maintain equipment operating records and log sheets.
  • Ensure that safety rules are followed.

Required:
  • The work requires vocational training plus journey level experience troubleshooting and repairing systems and equipment appropriate to the work involved.
  • Knowledge and skills in gasoline and diesel engine maintenance, high pressure hydraulics, pneumatic and hydraulic brake systems, steering/suspension systems, motors, and drives.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of tools and equipment such as various hand tools, portable electrical and pneumatic tools, electronic test equipment, soldering and brazing equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic maintenance and test equipment, and larger power equipment such as lathes, mills, drills, metal shears, grinders, and welding machines, etc.
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and sketches.
  • Ability to use computerized automated diagnostic systems.
  • Knowledge of all applicable DOE, OSHA, and SLAC environmental safety and health rules, procedures, and regulations.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.
  • May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends, including Holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions
  • When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.
  • Promote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.
