Position Summary:
- Material Handler maintains incoming and outgoing product movement throughout the facility.
Core Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Follow all policies and guidelines regarding workplace safety and product quality
- Read production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed
- Convey materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or other designated areas
- Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to size, type, style, color, or product code
- Fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, and distribute items to production areas
- Assemble customer orders from stock and place orders on pallets
- Mark materials with identifying information
- Open bales, crates, and other containers
- Record amounts of materials or items received or distributed
- Weigh or count items for distribution within the plant to ensure conformance to company standards
- Use computer to enter records
- Drive material handling equipment to transport stored items
- Load and unload trailers of palletized and non-palletized products
- Utilize manual and automated material handling equipment
- Practice and adhere to safety and hygiene guidelines for safe housekeeping and personal protection
- Perform other duties as required
- Contribute to division results and performance
- Take care of internal and external customer needs and expectations
Position Requirements:
- Formal Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Experience:
- Effective communication with team members and management
- Ability to read information through warehouse computer software
- Relevant work experience (1-3 years)
Physical Requirements:
- Constantly sit, stand, hear, and see
- Frequently walk, write, and type
- Frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds; occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Climb and descend stairs
- Frequently bend, carry, reach, push, and pull
- Communicate verbally and in writing
- May work indoors and outdoors as needed
- Exposure to heat up to 120°F and cold to 0°F
- May work in noisy areas requiring hearing protection
- May be exposed to dust and dirt
- Work surfaces may include concrete
- Must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone
