Job Summary:
The Materials Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of material handling, inventory control, and shipping/receiving operations. This role ensures that materials and products are efficiently received, stored, and distributed to support production and outbound logistics. The position supervises warehouse staff, enforces safety protocols, and drives process improvements to optimize material and product flow.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily operations of materials handling, inventory management, and shipping/receiving functions.
- Oversee the receipt of inbound materials and ensure proper inspection, documentation, and storage.
- Manage the preparation and shipment of outbound products, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Coordinate closely with procurement, production, and logistics to align inventory with production schedules and shipping timelines.
- Maintain accurate inventory through cycle counts, audits, and data entry in inventory management systems.
- Resolve discrepancies in orders, shipments, and deliveries in collaboration with vendors and carriers.
- Ensure compliance with shipping regulations and documentation requirements (e.g., bills of lading, packing lists).
- Train and supervise staff on proper shipping/receiving, material handling, and safety procedures.
- Maintains employee time sheets and schedules
- Manage the forklift training program.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe warehouse and shipping/receiving areas.
- Recommend and implement process improvements for increased efficiency and reduced costs.
Education and Experience:
- Strong knowledge of inventory management and warehouse operations, including shipping/receiving procedures.
- Experience with logistics, freight coordination, and carrier management.
- Proficiency in inventory and ERP systems; strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Effective leadership and team-building capabilities.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Understanding of safety regulations and ability to enforce OSHA and company standards.
- Forklift operation and certification (as applicable).
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Reliable and consistent with a strong sense of accountability.
- Proactive and solutions-focused mindset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead by example.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in materials management, inventory control, and shipping/receiving supervision.
- Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or industrial warehouse environment is preferred.
