Mechanical Drafter/Designer I  
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

Prepares clear, complete and accurate design documentation to assist in the manufacture and service of components, products or systems.


MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
 

  1. Create engineering drawings from 3D CAD models using Solidworks.
  2. Work from notes, verbal instructions, sketches and drawings, or engineering specifications; consolidates the information to be used to prepare working plans, layouts and detailed drawings.
  3. Review the design and helps resolve the details not completely defined. Determine the best combination of all the preliminary information and contributing data to develop the final design.
  4. Develop specifications, designs or drawings using engineering principles, established company standards, procedures, and instructions.
  5. Provide the required level of documentation for custom or standard projects. Specific tasks include making drawings and parts lists using Solidworks software and other computer tools, as required.
  6. Review engineering drawings and supporting documents for adherence to company or industry design standards as well as for meeting form fit and function, e.g. verify freedom of movement between parts, etc.
  7. Verify completed work; checks dimensions, materials to be used, quantities, processing info, etc.
  8. Coordinate with other internal departments (and external vendors) affected by design development. Provide scheduling, costing and technical information concerning the design
  9. Support the resolution of mechanical and fabrication problems with designed or purchased parts used in a design.
  10. Assure that any changes are documented and prepared in accordance with engineering change procedures and in a timely manner.
  11. Follow company procedures, work instructions and guidelines in the design, layout, and documentation of company custom and standard products., i.e., procedure, classification coding and retrieval system, CAD drafting and archival guidelines, etc.
