Engineering Project Manager – Data Center Power Generation
Are you ready to lead complex, high-impact projects in the fast-paced world of data center infrastructure? We are seeking an experienced Engineering Project Manager to plan, organize, and manage critical data center power generation projects—delivering state-of-the-art engine installations and balance of plant (BOP) systems to client specifications. This role offers the opportunity to work nationally, overseeing challenging installations, cross-functional teams, and all phases of construction through successful commissioning and client handover.

Project location is Indiana, but candidates can be based in other parts of the Midwest if they are open to 75% travel to Indiana.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including engineering staff, subcontractors, and site personnel, to deliver high-quality data center power generation solutions.
  • Oversee daily project execution, conduct routine site visits, facilitate safety meetings, and ensure real-time alignment to scheduled milestones.
  • Manage all aspects of project delivery, ensuring adherence to contractual timelines, technical scopes, and quality standards.
  • Organize and facilitate regular internal coordination meetings and one-on-one sessions to monitor progress, resolve challenges, and maintain project momentum.
  • Mentor and support team members by providing training opportunities that elevate project outcomes and team performance.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by interpreting project objectives, negotiating milestones, and proactively resolving issues as they arise.
  • Develop detailed construction and commissioning schedules using leading project management software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6.
  • Proactively manage project budgets, track payment milestones, and align financials with contract obligations alongside internal finance partners.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE), and Quality standards throughout all project phases.
  • Evaluate, source, and manage vendor and subcontractor agreements to ensure value, reliability, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Actively monitor construction, mechanical/electrical installation, commissioning, and client handover—taking corrective action to keep projects on track.
  • Provide clear, professional communication and reporting to stakeholders, including risk assessments, progress updates, and issue resolutions.
Required Technical Skills and Knowledge:
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) credential or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of data center construction best practices and power generation systems.
  • Experience with balance of plant (BOP), MEP systems, and data center commissioning.
  • Demonstrated success in budget management and financial tracking for large-scale projects.
  • Knowledge of contract law, construction claims, and commercial project conditions.
  • Proficiency in project management tools: Microsoft Project, Procore, Primavera P6, Word, and Excel.
Personal Attributes:
  • Reliable, professional, and committed to the highest standards of integrity.
  • Focused on building a culture of performance, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Able to foster strong partnerships with clients and stakeholders, maintaining credibility under pressure.
  • Adaptive and hands-on problem solver with a proactive approach to overcoming challenges.
  • Skilled planner and prioritizer able to manage multiple, complex workflows.
  • High attention to detail and confident decision-maker with strong influence and communication skills.
