Position Overview:
We're seeking a Purchasing Specialist/Buyer to join our client's team in Albuquerque. This role is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials and services required for steel fabrication projects. The ideal candidate will ensure that all materials meet quality standards, are delivered on schedule, and are cost-effective to support smooth production and project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and specifications to determine material needs.
- Source and purchase steel, plate, structural shapes, fasteners, consumables, and other fabrication materials.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor quotations to ensure competitive pricing and quality.
- Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and terms with suppliers.
- Create, issue, and track purchase orders in STRUMIS.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, reports, and supplier performance data.
- Check stock levels before ordering to prevent shortages or excess material.
- Resolve delivery, quality, or invoice discrepancies in coordination with suppliers.
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure reliability and favorable terms.
- Support estimating and project management teams by providing bid pricing, material cost, and lead time information.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management (steel fabrication industry preferred).
- Solid understanding of steel grades, fasteners, and fabrication materials.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and BOMs.
- Proficiency in STRUMIS is a strong plus.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
