QC Technician- Richmond VA
The QC Technician is responsible for conducting monitoring, sampling, and testing of raw materials, in-process, and finished products to ensure compliance with internal quality standards, regulatory requirements, and food safety protocols. This role plays a critical part in upholding Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards, and product integrity across all production stages. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform standardized analytical testing on incoming, in-process, and finished materials. Tests may include pH, turbidity, Brix, salt content, alcohol, total nitrogen, and microbiological analysis.
  • Conduct routine quality sampling and inspections during production runs, reporting variances and non-conformities promptly to management.
  • Support production teams by performing pre-run, in-process, and post-run quality checks.
  • Monitor sanitation and hygiene compliance across the facility in accordance with GMP policies; report repeat violations.
  • Prepare and send samples for external laboratory testing; track results and escalate issues as needed.
  • Place and release products on quality hold status according to company protocols.
  • Receive and verify new ingredients; maintain supplier documentation and ingredient records.
  • Maintain and update all QC laboratory documentation, including SOPs, forms, charts, and analytical records.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and ensure performance standards are met.
  • Manage inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables.
  • Support the QC Manager in resolving customer quality complaints and inquiries.
  Essential Skills & Abilities:
The successful candidate will be able to:
  • Work a flexible schedule including overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members across departments.
  • Accept and implement instructions from supervisors and management efficiently.
  • Organize and manage multiple tasks under time constraints with a high level of accuracy.
  • Work independently and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work safely in an environment with potential allergens (soy, wheat, peanut, sesame, mustard).
  • Wear all required PPE including hearing protection, safety glasses, steel-toe/anti-slip footwear, hair/facial nets, gloves, and uniform while adhering to GMP standards.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 1–2 years of experience in the food, beverage or related manufacturing industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in a science-related field (preferred).
  • Familiarity with lab safety practices and hazardous material handling.
  • Working knowledge of HACCP; certification preferred but not required.
