Now Hiring: Receptionist
Location: Waterbury, CT
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Compensation: $21 per hour
A respected organization in Waterbury, Connecticut is seeking a full-time Receptionist to provide administrative and clerical support for its Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) and Rental Assistance Program (RAP) offices. This position plays a key role in ensuring smooth front-office operations and delivering professional customer service to clients, landlords, and the public.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Program Director, Program Supervisor, and/or Program Coordinator, the Receptionist is responsible for performing a wide variety of secretarial and clerical duties in support of program operations. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working in a high-volume environment while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
Essential Responsibilities
- Answer incoming telephone calls and route inquiries appropriately
- Greet and assist clients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner
- Prepare, type, and distribute correspondence, forms, and reports
- Maintain organized filing systems and client records
- Log incoming Requests for Tenancy Approval (RFTAs) and update available unit listings
- Prepare monthly client packets for re-certification
- Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail and faxes
- Review initial eligibility applications for completeness and accuracy
- Support administrative and clerical needs of the program staff as assigned
- High school diploma or GED required
- One to two years of related office or secretarial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and capable of learning program-specific software
- Able to operate standard office equipment, including computers, copiers, fax machines, and multi-line phone systems
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Basic mathematical skills, including ability to perform arithmetic and percentages
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Professional demeanor and interpersonal skills suitable for interaction with a diverse population, including clients, landlords, attorneys, and members of the public
- Office-based role requiring standard physical activities such as standing, sitting, reaching, stooping, and occasional lifting of materials
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment
