Senior Accountant

Location: Moreno Valley, CA

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Status: Part-Time | $45-60 an hour | Hybrid

Position Overview

Seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support its finance and accounting operations. Under the direction of the CEO, this role will perform a variety of professional accounting duties including maintaining financial records, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, assisting with budget development and payroll processing, and ensuring compliance with local government financial practices.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional seeking a flexible, part-time schedule while contributing to a dynamic and impactful agency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain financial and budget records for all JPA agencies
  • Prepare and post journal entries; reconcile general ledger and special fund accounts
  • Perform monthly close processes and prepare monthly financial statements and reports
  • Reconcile bank accounts and verify accuracy of financial data
  • Assist in preparing the agency's annual budget and support budget presentations
  • Assist with payroll processing and payroll-related reporting functions
  • Work with auditors and support the development of annual financial reports
  • Prepare special financial and statistical reports as needed
  • Process accounts payable invoices; verify purchase orders and vendor statements
  • Prepare and manage bank deposits and cash receipts
  • Assist with the administration of federal and state grants
  • File workers' compensation reports and managing related records
  • Support risk management activities, including maintaining insurance documentation and participating in board meetings
  • Perform other related accounting functions as assigned

Knowledge of:

  • Governmental and fund accounting principles and systems
  • Budgeting methods, payroll processing, financial reporting, and auditing practices
  • Computerized accounting software (Springbrook experience preferred but not required)
  • Applicable state and federal grant reporting requirements
  • Insurance and risk management in a public sector setting

Ability to:

  • Analyze financial data and draw logical conclusions
  • Prepare accurate financial, statistical, and narrative reports
  • Process and support payroll-related tasks accurately and on time
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of financial and payroll information
  • Communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and external partners
  • Organize and manage multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Experience with payroll processing and related reporting
  • Strong proficiency with computerized accounting systems, Excel, and Word
  • Prior experience working in local government or public agency finance is highly desirable
  • Ability to be bonded for handling public funds
