Sr. Product Development Engineer  (Fort Worth, Texas) 
Our client, a manufacturer of orthopedics, is currently hiring a Sr. Product Development Engineer, Engineer will be the focal point for R&D and engineering, owning processes for supporting bracing/support design and commercialization of new innovations; 3- 5 plus years direct experience with soft bracing is highly desired; candidates without it would be a lower priority due to the critical need for foundational knowledge. This position will have several functions, and the person filling this position will need to wear multiple hats and work primarily with the development team, but will also interact with Manufacturing, and Operations teams. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
New Product Development/Project Management- There will be several projects under development at all times. Serve as key member on innovation/development team and set priorities for the projects under development and work directly with both upper and lower extremity product managers when setting up product parameters.  
Prototype development and testing will be high priority for this position.  
Development of product testing criteria, product testing both bench and actual wear testing, if applicable. 
Management and concurrent development of multiple projects is required. 
Concept Design: The Innovative design is required to explore and facilitate unique product development. Initial prototype creation with development team either in-house or use of resources from outside vendors. 
Product Field Testing: Responsible for the preparation of test samples for field trials per instructions from Product Mangers. Work with Product managers to develop field survey, and monitor field testing units for form, fit, and function. 
Specification Development- All newly developed products will need to be properly specified with drawings (components/assemblies), testing, and inspection parameters where applicable. Work with Manufacturing on production procedures and product inspection development for release of all new products.  
Product Release- Responsible for new products timely release and provide assistance to Marketing for product information and instructions development.  
Follow up with Product Mangers after initial release to review feedback from field and determine if there are any opportunities for product improvements. 
Product Maintenance and Improvement- Work on improvements to existing products as directed by the innovation team, product inspection, manage product return process and initiation of corrective actions as-needed. Initiate and approve ECO's (Engineering Change Orders), if it is determined a change is needed to affect a corrective action. Follow up on ECO's to ensure properly implementation. 

Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 
Work in the field with Product Managers as necessary when working on joint projects with physicians and customers.
Coordinate engineering development activities with other departments or organizations.
Material understanding, testing and selection.
Vendor relations. 
Competitor product knowledge.
Internal product training.
Review, approve, and implement product changes.
Prepare project timelines/phase checklist.
Prepare budgets for development projects.
Develop cost estimates for new products/modifications with the assistance of manufacturing team.

Qualifications:
Readiness to lead R&D, product development, and support commercialization of orthopedic bracing innovations in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline.
Minimum 3–5 years of direct experience in soft bracing, orthopedic support design, or medical device product development (soft bracing experience is strongly preferred).
Expertise in new product development, concept design, and prototype creation for orthopedic and wearable medical devices.
Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) for 3D modeling, drawings, and specification development.
Strong knowledge of material selection, testing, and performance evaluation of textiles, polymers, and elastomers used in bracing/support products.
Familiarity with product testing protocols (bench and wear testing), specification development, and product release processes.
Demonstrated ability to concurrently manage multiple R&D projects from concept through commercialization.
Experience preparing project timelines, budgets, and cost estimates.
Effective at prioritizing tasks within cross-functional and innovation teams.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, product inspection methods, and production handoff procedures.
Experience supporting product release, engineering change orders (ECOs), and product improvements post-launch.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with Product Managers, marketing, manufacturing, and external vendors.
Familiarity with regulatory standards and quality systems for medical devices (FDA, ISO 13485).

Preferred:
Advanced knowledge of soft bracing technologies and orthopedic product field.
Experience working with physicians, customers, and handling joint development projects.
