Staff Accountant (Temporary – 6 Months)
Potential for Permanent Placement if Successful
Compensation: salary $70,000 – $80,000 DOE
Location: Nederland TX
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm, 9/80 schedule; additional hours and days may be required Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our customer finance team for a temporary 6-month assignment covering maternity leave. This crucial role is responsible for processing transactions and supporting ongoing accounting functions in accordance with standard procedures. If the appointed candidate excels, there is potential for transition to a permanent position.
Key Responsibilities
- Process daily business transactions (bank transactions, invoices, tax payments, etc.) promptly and accurately.
- Transfer information into supporting spreadsheets and SAP ERP system.
- Analyze data and develop spreadsheet reports.
- Maintain proper transaction support in both hard copy and electronic files.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Address accounting and financial questions through data research and interpretation.
- Post and process journal entries to record all business transactions.
- Monitor transaction workflows for approvals, documentation, and timely payments.
- Research and resolve vendor payment discrepancies and disputes.
- Uphold a professional and positive company image with clients and vendors.
- Perform reconciliations of standard balance sheet/income statement accounts.
- Retrieve ERP data for accounting and internal departmental reporting.
- Support audits by providing requested documentation and responding to inquiries.
- Participate in ongoing educational opportunities to update accounting knowledge.
- Act ethically and with integrity at all times.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Maintain Close Binder and ensure all required documentation is complete.
- Assist Finance Leadership and senior accountants in special projects and month/year-end closings.
- Collaborate with other departments and administrative personnel as needed.
- Perform other assigned tasks.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required.
- Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience or training.
- Proficiency with basic accounting principles and practices, as well as accounts receivable/general ledger systems.
- Solid understanding of financial chart of accounts and company procedures.
- Strong arithmetic and mathematical skills.
- Knowledge of business management and strategic planning.
- Advanced computer skills; highly proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel required).
- Experience with SAP ERP required.
- Excellent teamwork and customer service skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and receptive to management feedback.
- High productivity standards and timely completion of work.
- Detail-oriented, minimizing and recognizing errors efficiently.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Effective planning, organizing, and time management skills.
- Adaptable to changing environments and competing demands.
- Discretion and confidentiality are essential due to frequent handling of sensitive information.
- Must obtain Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Ability to lift/move up to 10 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to sit for extended periods; work under stressful/irregular conditions.
- Moderate noise level tolerance.
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal).
