Requirements

Responsibilities:

 

  • Monitors and evaluates ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS Level II coding as it relates to all outpatient coding, unlisted and Inpatient only cpts.
  • Educates Coding Personnel in NCCI, CCI and LCD/NCD edit compliance.
  • Communicates with and educates personnel from the following areas regarding hospital charging and reimbursement issues related to APC's, CPTs and Medical Necessity: registration, billing finance, ancillary departments, physician, and physicians' offices. 
  • Supports medical center's accounts receivable goals through timely and accurate outpatient coding and ARMS referral processes.
  •  Completes assigned duties and other related tasks.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management with RHIT or RHIA certification and/or CCS certification.
  • RHIT/RHIA eligible will also be considered with coding/abstracting experience preferred (must sit for the exam at first available offering after completion of RHIT/RHIT program including passing their certification exam within one year of the first attempt).
  • Must be able to read and write English and follow oral and written directions.
  • Three to four years' experience in coding in acute care hospital required.
  • Two to three years' experience coding outpatient encounters in an acute care hospital required.
  • Experience with the 3M Clinical Data System, or other coding and abstracting database required.
  • Basic computer knowledge required. 
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision required.
