Job Description

Summary: The Payroll Supervisor supervises Payroll staff, ensuring that all processes are executed appropriately and in a timely manner. Operates as the subject matter expert and escalation point to resolve issues and continuously looks for improvements in operational processes and designs and implements those initiatives. Optimizes the contribution of the team through coaching, counseling and implements workable solutions to business issues/problems with minimal supervision. Conducts work planning, estimation and prioritization to optimize performance of team. This individual manages effective internal/external client relationships within own area of responsibility and builds client relationships in the wider group or unit.

Responsibilities:

-Manage and guarantee weekly/monthly disbursement of multi-state payrolls

-Supervise Payroll Staff and prepare work schedules to ensure appropriate cross-training, work coverage and monitor workload

-Assist Manager with relationships with internal and external auditors and implement audit recommendations

-Review department procedures and make recommendations for process improvement

-Critically review and analyze current payroll and tax procedures in order to develop and implement changes that lead to improve efficiency and best-practice operations

-Maintain Payroll staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and provide ongoing training to all Team Members

-Ensure Team Members acquire necessary skills and performance attributes, in line with business and personal development needs

-Keep up to date with federal/state/local tax laws and ensure employee/employer withholdings are paid/reported timely and accurately

-Oversee employee payroll accounting, transactions and reporting activities

-Work with Payroll Manager in all year-end processes (W-2 reconciliations, Relocation, etc.)

-Assist Payroll Manager to create annual team objectives.

Qualifications

-Minimum of 5 years multi state/multi FEIN payroll experience with 3+ years in a Supervisory role

-Demonstrated coaching/mentoring skills and issue management problem solving skills

-Ability to adapt to changing environment and support of multiple business locations

-Excellent customer service skills

-Strong organization and time management skills, attention to detail and follow through to resolve outstanding issues

-Strong written and verbal communication skills; appropriately communicates with all levels of employees and vendors

-Ability to analyze/interpret data and take appropriate action

-Strong knowledge of employer/employee tax rules and regulations

-Strong Excel skills including VLOOKUP and pivot tables

-Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

-A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
