Position Summary: This position is responsible for the safe operation of the evaporator.
Responsibilities:
- Able to safely and accurately do CIP and start-up preparation.
- Able to fill cooling towers as required.
- Able to operate several control panels and understand the importance of pressures and temperature on product specs.
- Understand the columns and impacts on essence retention.
- Send juice to the cold room and have the correct pipes connected.
- Able to monitor the process both prior to and after the evaporation stage.
- Able to collect and record all required documentation.
- Able to effectively communicate the process variables applicable to the operated evaporator to Filter Operators, QA, and the Shift Supervisor.
- Documenting CCP #3- Checking the screen before and after each load of concentrate.
Role in Food Safety: Always follow plant GMP's, ensure work area is secure, document and monitor CCP's in work area.
Position that backs up this role during absence: Any other trained employee in the Processing Department.

A. Physical Requirements:
This position requires the following physical demands up to 90% of the time:
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Must be able to carry 25 pounds up and down 21 stairs.
- Must be able to stand for 8 hours during a shift minus breaks and lunch.
- Must be able to work in hot, humid and/or cold conditions.
- Must be able to stand, bend, squat, crawl, kneel, reach above shoulders, climb ladders and crawl in tight and awkward workplaces for long periods of time.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination.
- B. Non-Physical Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Minimum one year's experience as an evaporator operator preferred.
- Special Skills:
- Able to work any shift, overtime and any or all days of the week in accordance with plant needs.
- Knowledge and awareness of steam lines/hot set/condensate water to avoid burns.
- Knowledge and awareness of chemicals used for CIP and proper PPI while using them.
- Properly do equipment checks daily and report any problems to maintenance.
- Excellent communication skills.

- Internal Relationships:
- The Evaporator Operator must interact and communicate effectively with all employees of the organization. Effective communication is especially important with the shift supervisor, Filter Operator and QA Technicians.

- There are no direct or indirect reports.
- Back-up:
- Back-up is done using 12-hour shifts with other Evaporator Operators.
