JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Director of the Pulmonary/Critical Care Service Line is responsible for ensuring high levels of clinical outcomes, customer service, and productivity in a dyad model with the System Director of Operations. The Medical Director: (i) provides medical oversight and direction, leadership and accountability for the medical care provided within the assigned areas of responsibility; (ii) provides mentorship and leadership to physicians and advanced providers (“APs”) to improve the quality of care and service rendered to Lee Health patients; (iii) meets the behavioral expectations outlined in the Lee Health Medical Staff Physician Compact; (iv) implements quality, strategic, and operational initiatives; and (v) is responsible for physicians and APs within the Pulmonary/Critical Care Division, and Sleep Medicine. The Medical Director is expected to build strong relationships with the Lee Health medical staffs and be a resource to others on the leadership team of Lee Physician Group (“LPG”).

This position is a hybrid medical director in a 60% administrative/ 40% clinical practice role.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Candidate must have an M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) or D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) degree from an accredited medical school and residency program (or its equivalent).

Experience: One to two years of physician leadership experience preferred.

State of Florida Licensure: Candidate must have and maintain an unrestricted, active license to practice medicine or osteopathic medicine, as applicable, in the State of Florida.

Certifications. Candidate must be board certified in pulmonary critical care.

Other: Candidate must: (i) be eligible as a provider for Medicare, Medicaid and other federal and Florida healthcare programs; and (iii) have excellent interpersonal skills and highly effective communication skills.

JOB STANDARDS: The Medical Director, Pulmonary/Critical Care:
  1. Ensures that a system for evaluation and accountability is established for physicians and APs to adhere to the cultural standards, behavioral standards, and quality of care standards.
  2. Develops and leads a team of physicians and APs in decision-making, compliance with clinical quality and programs specific to pulmonary/critical care.
  3. Operationally leads the Pulmonary Critical Care division physicians and APs, in a dyad relationship with the System Director of Operations.
  4. Is a liaison between the LPG Pulmonary/Critical Care physicians, APs and administration to ensure a system of communication, problem solving, and collaboration exists.
  5. Oversees yearly evaluations of physicians and APs and ensures that a system is in place to evaluate all physicians within the scope of responsibility.
  6. Collaborates with clinic physician leaders, hospital leaders, and LPG leadership in pursuit of excellence in patient care.
  7. Leads the development and implementation of evidence based clinical protocols.
  8. Co-leads Pulmonary/Critical Care physician and AP recruitment and retention efforts with the Dyad System Director and the recruitment team.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Physician and Operations Executive – LPG.
