Job Summary

Every program DRS delivers runs on the parts, materials, and services that show up on time and on spec and that starts with disciplined, compliant purchasing. As a Buyer II, you'll own the procurement actions that keep production and engineering moving generating CPSR-compliant purchase orders, driving supplier performance, and closing out engineering change notices before they become schedule risk. You'll be embedded in the day-to-day rhythm of a fast-moving supply chain team — reading blueprints and military specs, applying real contract and procurement law knowledge, and negotiating terms that protect the mission and the bottom line. You'll be the accountable point of contact between DRS and its supplier base, tracking cost savings, resolving disputes, and keeping vendor records audit-ready. If you know how to move a purchase order fast without cutting corners on compliance, this is where that skill matters.

Essential Functions
  • Execute and generate CPSR-compliant purchase orders from approved requisitions, RFPs, bids, and related procurement documentation.
  • Perform the full range of tactical purchasing duties that keep day-to-day buying activity moving without delay.
  • Drive supplier change follow-through on Engineering Change Notices, keeping production and engineering aligned to schedule.
  • Own supplier performance communication and resolve issues spanning pricing, quality, timing, claims, and contract disputes.
  • Apply commercial contract law knowledge and negotiation skill to assess risk and secure the best terms and conditions, assisting in negotiations as needed.
  • Build and maintain sound supplier relationships as the primary point of contact between DRS and assigned vendors.
  • Track demand and spend profiles by commodity area, and report cost savings and avoidances.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready vendor agreements and procurement records.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in government purchasing.
  • Ability to understand military specifications and read blueprints.
  • Working knowledge of the laws governing procurement, contracts, and breach of contract.
  • Knowledge of price and cost analysis.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Costpoint ERP.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP.
  • Familiarity with Power BI.
  • Reside within a 75-mile radius of our facility in Melbourne, FL or Huntsville, AL

Only candidates that meet the qualifications set forth above are eligible to be contacted for further information. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas.
