Job Summary

Under the clinical direction of the Medical Control Physician, process to promote and restore patient's health status; collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; provides physical and psychological support to patients, family members and significant others.  Uses a systematic critical thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, clinical judgement, intervention and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems.  All responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the mission, vision, strategic imperative and standards of Lexington Medical Center, and in accordance with the provisions set forth by the South Carolina Emergency Medical Service Protocols and Regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum Years of Experience: 3 Years of Emergency Services Experience
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Active National Registry Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic Certification (NREMT-P) and South Carolina Paramedic Certification;
Must possess a valid state driver's license, BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

Essential Functions
  • May function alone or as a multi member team.
  • Uses a systematic critical-thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, clinical judgement, intervention and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems.
  • Identifies, synthesizes and interprets sources of data using reasonable clinical judgement to respond to dynamic situations in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Promptly responds to all communication devices in order to meet patient needs on campus.
  • Scene size up, including universal precautions, scene safety, environmental hazards assessment, by-stander safety, and patient / caregiver interaction.
  • Establish positive rapport with patient and family.
  • Assess need for additional resources.
  • Initial assessment includes a general impression and status of patient's airway, breathing, and circulation.
  • Assess mental status (AVPU) and disability (GCS).Control major hemorrhage and assess overall priority of patient.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform a focused history and physical need based on patient's chief complaint.
  • Assess need for critical interventions.
  • Complete critical interventions and perform a complete secondary exam to include a baseline set of vital signs as directed by established protocols.
  • Maintain an ongoing assessment throughout transport.
  • Document all findings and information associated with the assessment, performed procedures, and any administration of medications in the EMR.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Demonstrates effective teamwork skills and maintains cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem solving methods.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
