Job Summary

Repair, calibrate and maintain all types of basic clinical/healthcare equipment technologies, devices, instruments, and systems. Inspect, install, and provide planned maintenance of basic general clinical/healthcare technology equipment.

Required Training: Individuals applying for or are in this position are required to pass a competency validation during their probationary period and periodically thereafter; 

Knowledge of  general computer applications such as e-mail, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

Essential Functions
  • Repair, install, maintain, calibrate and inspect a diverse range of therapeutic and diagnostic biomedical instrumentation and equipment including life-support equipment.
  • Perform planned maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices and systems.
  • Diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain documentation on new equipment inspections and equipment repairs and failures.
  • Assist with, schedule, oversee and evaluate vendor repairs as necessary.
  • Provide technical assistance and instruction on equipment operation and user maintenance to various clinical personnel.
  • Maintain documentation required by management and as outlined by current policies and procedures.
  • Document time and expenses in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform routine rounding throughout the Medical Facility and provides consistent feedback to user departments on the status of repairs and other maintenance activities.
  • Assists with reviewing outcomes of planned maintenance (PM) actions and make recommendations to department staff concerning improvements.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Order parts and supplies (up to approved limit) necessary for the servicing of medical equipment.
  • May assist more senior biomedical equipment technicians or supervisor with in-service educational programs on use of equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Maintain knowledge of electronic theory, technology and test equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of color code conventions use in component, wiring and medical gas marking.
  • Maintain knowledge of the application and repair of computers and servers and how they interface with medical/healthcare equipment.
  • Stay abreast of current regulatory requirements related to medical/healthcare equipment.   
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
