Description

Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group, Department of Pediatrics is seeking a board certified per diem pediatric nephrologist. CCS paneled and active CA License is preferred. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide patient care in either a clinical or inpatient setting, with the option to work in both, based on preference.

The Loma Linda University Faculty medical group is affiliated with the Loma Linda University Healthcare system and School of Medicine with a mission to deliver whole person care at a world class level of clinical excellence. Loma Linda University Medical Center and Children's Hospital is a tertiary care referral center for the Inland Empire that spans Riverside, San Bernardino, Inyo, and Mono Counties with a population of over 4 million people.

The Pediatric Nephrology division currently has four Pediatric Nephrologists and a nurse practitioner. The division provides comprehensive services to infants, children, teens, and young adults with kidney disease in the inland Southern California area. The Loma Linda Children's hospital has 380 licensed beds including a 25-bed PICU, 80+bed NICU, 15-bed Pediatric CICU and pediatric stepdown units. It has expanded to include a newly licensed children's tower to service 1 million + children in the region.

The division provides full-service outpatient and inpatient general nephrology, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation care. We provide acute care services including CRRT, inpatient dialysis & apheresis treatments, along with consultative services to the PICU, Cardiac ICU, NICU, BMT and inpatient units. Outpatient services include an ESRD program averaging 30-40 pediatric dialysis patients, 8-15 kidney transplants annually and specialized care for 80+ prevalent kidney transplant patients. Our team includes clinical nurse specialists, pediatric trained hemodialysis nurses, dedicated peritoneal dialysis nurses, renal dietitians, and social workers. We routinely see patients in multi-disciplinary clinics to provide comprehensive care. In addition to nephrology specific care, we have an active ABPM program for pediatric hypertension management along with a specialty bone health clinic. We routinely conduct patient care conferences with specialty services including Pediatric Urology, Pathology, and the Loma Linda University Transplant institute.

The applicant's duties will include providing clinical patient care in either the inpatient or outpatient setting or a combination of these duties. This could be adjusted based on the candidate's interests and experience. Inpatient clinical duties would include rounding on admitted pediatric patients (both primary and consult patients), admitting new patients, providing consultation for new patients, emergency room consultations and providing on-call coverage for afterhours issues and emergencies. The inpatient pediatric nephrology team has pediatric residents who assist with patient care and daily rounds. Outpatient clinic coverage would include seeing new and established general nephrology patients with a variety of nephrology associated diagnoses including pediatric hypertension and ABPM interpretations.

Inpatient patient care will also be associated with teaching responsibilities for the Loma Linda University School of medicine students and pediatric residents. The Loma Linda Department of pediatrics has a large pediatric residency program consisting of approximately 84 pediatric residents including primary care track residents and Med-Peds residents.

Loma Linda is located between Los Angeles and Palms Springs in an area known as the Inland Empire. Nestled in the foothills of the San Bernardino mountains, we have convenient access to hiking, skiing, beaches, and a variety of other outdoor activities.
