Job Title: EHS Manager

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and proactive Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to join our team in the marine industry. The EHS Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulations and promote a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

The EHS Manager works with all departments and employees to develop and enhance a culture of consistent safe behavior. In addition, this person must observe, track, and complete activities with employees and supervisors to reduce and eliminate work related injuries and accidents to support our safety and environmental goals.

This individual will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations for the entire facility including but not limited to: air emissions, hazardous waste handling and disposal, and developing waste reduction programs.  This position requires responsibility for documents pertaining to compliance with OSHA and report data to HR for entry into tracking system for review and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Compliance with OSHA standards, answering any complaints, investigations, or violations, while working with HR Director to track incidents and OSHA reporting.
  • Directs and coordinates with outside contractor for environmental compliance programs related to hazardous wastes, stormwater and air permitting and reporting as required.
  • Conduct proactive, action-based programs to reduce or eliminate work related accidents or injuries. Assists with and trains supervisors on proper accident investigations for all work-related injuries and provide reports to location management.
  • Ensures compliance and recordkeeping for hazardous waste handling and disposal.
  • Develop and facilitate all safety related training. Coordinate and conduct at least quarterly Safety Committee meetings.
  • Assist in developing safe work policies, procedures, and inspection report forms.
  • Performs new hire safety training at hire and HAZCOM within 90 days of hire.
  • Collects and monitors safety work orders and requests for equipment, safety concerns and PPE.
  • Maintains and updates all safety records such as: injuries, illnesses, safety statistics, using spreadsheets, graphs, charts, and presentations as required.
  • Maintains and updates all SDS records, works with Engineering and Purchasing to ensure all products are captured and communicated to all employees, including all new chemicals brought on site.
  • Develops routine schedule for daily, weekly, monthly, etc. for all required duties and reporting.
  • Required to conduct walkthroughs with any agency that may want to perform routine or unannounced inspections such as EPA/DEP, OSHA, City/County inspectors.
  • Required to respond to emergencies on site (alarms/incidents/spills) and interact with emergency responders.
  • All other duties as assigned and developed by Operations Manager and HR.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in environmental, health, and safety management, preferably in the marine or maritime industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, USCG, and international maritime standards (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL).
  • First Aid/CPR Certification preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience developing and implementing safety training programs, conducting hazard assessments, and managing incident investigations.
  • Proven track record of driving continuous improvement initiatives and achieving measurable results in safety performance.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and experience with EHS management systems or software (e.g., EHS software, incident reporting systems).

  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl: and talk and hear.
  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to 10 hours per day.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
  • Will exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, push or pull on a regular basis.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
