Title and Summary

Director, Tax Overview:

Mastercard is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Director to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to help manage the company's global tax strategy while providing proactive guidance on various domestic and international tax matters. This Director will support strategic tax planning, managing tax risk, and partnering with other business leaders within finance or the broader organization on key initiatives including mergers and acquisitions execution and post-acquisition integration matters. This role will also assist with tax analysis and advocacy related to proposed tax legislation and regulations, and will participate in the development and implementation of tax strategies to optimize the tax structure in support of business operations and expansions. This position is ideal for an experienced tax professional with progressive tax experience and a proven track record of providing both technical expertise and practical business insight.

Role:

Tax Strategy & Planning
• Support the implementation of federal, state, and international tax strategies that align with the company's long-term business and financial objectives.
• Conduct research and provide advice on the potential tax implications of key strategic decisions and new business initiatives.
• Monitor and analyze emerging federal, state, and international tax legislation, regulations, and policy developments, assessing the potential tax impact on the company's business operations and planning initiatives.
M&A and Integration
• Partner with cross-functional teams to support post-acquisition integration, aligning acquired businesses with the company's tax compliance and reporting policies and processes.
• Support tax due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures.
Tax Advisory & Incentives
• Monitor and identify eligibility and manage annual reporting/compliance associated with various federal, state, and international tax credits and incentives for the company and newly acquired businesses.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business units, providing proactive guidance on the tax aspects of new projects, operational changes, and strategic initiatives.
• Provide technical support for certain filing positions including research, application of tax rules and documentation of conclusion as required.
Tax Controversy & Risk Management
• Support the management of tax controversy matters associated with new business acquisitions and expansions, and implement risk management processes and controls as part of integration.
• Support the company's responses to federal, state, and international tax audits, examinations, and disputes for effective resolution of tax controversies.

All About You:

• JD and/or advanced degree in Taxation (MS in Tax) strongly preferred. CPA certification a plus.
• Demonstrated experience in corporate taxation across U.S., federal, state, and international matters including tax planning, advisory, M&A, controversy, incentives, and compliance/reporting.
• Big 4 accounting or law firm background, or prior corporate tax department experience strongly preferred.
• Provide leadership capability with strong project management skills and ability to manage complex, cross-functional initiatives.
• Exceptional analytical, writing, communication skills, with the ability to distill technical tax issues into clear, business-oriented advice for senior leadership and business teams.
• Ability to collaborate within hybrid work environment, and execute or deliver in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work with people at all levels in the organization. In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Purchase, New York: $159,000 - $254,000 USD Miami, Florida: $138,000 - $221,000 USD
