Overview
Our team's mission is to make payments easy, fast and as secure as possible. That's why we've developed technology that enables mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Garmin Pay, etc.) and secure, tokenized remote commerce payments. We call the set of services delivering this "MDES”. We've experienced incredible success and growth, with 10s of billions of transactions being processed each year, however now we are focusing on ensuring the success continues as we scale MDES even further.
We are looking for new team members with high experience in building innovative, efficient, highly scalable and secure applications and services with a focus on enhancing and expanding our use of cryptography both on-prem and in the public cloud. Passion, motivation and constant hunger to learn new skills and technologies are key factors to join our team and contribute to build very exciting services. Your contribution will not be limited to the implementation as you will also contribute and have impact on the design and architecture of the solutions.
Role
As a Lead Software Engineer you will:
• deliver services that power the ecosystem of Mastercard Digital Enablement Services
• develop application features according to agreed requirements and stories with security, performance principles and best practices in mind. Development encompasses reference and sample applications, device libraries, prototypes, demonstrations, proofs of concept and test tools including their documentation
• contribute to the design and architecture of new features focused on achieving positive customer outcomes, customer journeys and customer experience
• provide technical leadership within a small collaborative team of product managers and software engineers
• have good communication within the team as well as with external stakeholders with the ability to present complex topics to a non-technical audience
• take true ownership and responsibility for your software and its maintenance characteristics, runtime properties and dependencies
• provide feedback on peer designs, code, tests and automations, providing optimization and simplification recommendations
• champion our adoption of technology standards and opinionated frameworks

Essential knowledge, skills & attributes
You should apply if:
• you're comfortable working in a team that's exploring and defining new ways of working;
• you enjoy sharing your knowledge and experience with your colleagues;
• you are excited to build applications that have global impact and are used daily by 100s of millions of people
• you have Backend experience and can deliver a solution to a production environment
• you have experience of RESTful API and stateless service design patterns and deployment
• you have lots of experience developing using strongly-typed languages such as Java, Kotlin, Scala, etc. – Java is the main language we use at Mastercard
• you have used the Spring Framework components – it is what we use to create our cloud-ready applications
• you have experience using testing frameworks, like JUnit, JMeter, etc
• you have good understanding of CI/CD environments
Additional/Desirable capabilities
It would also be great if:
• you have first-hand knowledge of a wide range of technologies – databases, messaging, caches, API gateways, networking, pipelines– and preferably the products we use such as Jenkins, Oracle, Apache Kafka, Redis
• you have built Event Driven applications using 12-factor app best practices
• you have used cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or Google to deploy cloud-ready applications using containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes
