Title and Summary

Manager, Regulatory Compliance Overview:
Mastercard's Global Regulatory team is responsible for liaising with key regulators and law enforcement officials for the purpose of preventing or minimizing the impact of adverse regulations on the company's profitability and growth potential. This position will play a key role in supporting the strategic development & implementation of regulatory infrastructure and the compilation of regulatory submissions and correspondence within the Mastercard Europe region. This position will report to the Director, Regulatory Compliance, based in Waterloo (Belgium). This position is part of the Global Regulatory Team from a functional perspective and the European legal team from a regional perspective.

The Manager, Regulatory Compliance, UK will be responsible for leading, strengthening, extending and sustaining a successful compliance program for a regulated UK business and will support colleagues across the EEA region as required. The role will provide expert leadership and direction in order to identify and implement best practices in regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will support regulatory compliance activities for the UK business and will work cross-functionally with his / her Mastercard colleagues including, Regulatory Affairs, Legal Counsel, Human Resources, Finance, Public Policy, Privacy/Data Usage, Global Ethics and Compliance and Internal Audit.

Key Accountabilities of the Role:
• Support the Director, Regulatory Compliance in cascading the Global Regulatory Compliance strategy within the Mastercard Europe Region with a focus on the UK and on EEA region as required
• Oversee execution of regulatory compliance processes and controls within the UK business
• Support the use of the global regulatory compliance tool and framework
• Provide guidance to identify and address compliance gaps of internal controls to ensure compliance with various applicable laws and implement remedial actions and improvements
• Produce and maintain relevant regulatory compliance policies and departmental procedures
• Strengthen the compliance infrastructure within the UK business to ensure the business makes informed risk-based decisions regarding new opportunities, markets, local initiatives and product and service offerings and that appropriate compliance processes and controls are developed, documented and implemented
• Review and assess new business projects and design of compliance controls to ensure adherence to company policy and procedures; delivery appropriate solutions to ensure robust and appropriate compliance controls are implemented
• Preparation of submissions and returns to regulators ensuring accuracy and completeness and submission in line with required deadlines
• Experience of maintaining regulatory status with periodic filings and event-driven filings, e.g., change of control and/or incident updates
• Contribute to annual risk assessment and various risk management activities
• Produce regular MI for management and other internal stakeholders
• Act as an escalation point for regulatory compliance queries from other business areas
• Provide compliance guidance and act as a role model for proper conduct for other business areas
• Provide training and awareness focused on applicable laws, regulations, and responsibilities for internal controls
• Review marketing materials and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
• Assist in the gathering of internal information in response to regulator requests
• Provide regulator examination management support as needed
• Collaborate with other departments to create a culture of compliance

Key Competencies:
• Bachelor's degree
• Experience executing regulatory compliance programs, including design, implementation and oversight of controls
• Experience managing regulatory compliance programmes within a UK financial institution and/or payment systems
• Knowledge of Payment Services Regulations, financial market infrastructure supervision (including IOSCO principles for financial markets infrastructure (PFMIs) and their application)
• Ability to interpret regulations and guidance in order to assess the impact and develop practical operational procedures to ensure ongoing compliance
• Good understanding of core pillars of effective regulatory compliance programmes and relevant regulation and legislation
• Experience of engagement with regulators and central banks
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Project management skills, as the candidate is likely to have to juggle a number of projects at any time
• Experience of supporting regulatory projects across markets
• Self-starter who is flexible and able to work in a matrix management environment
• Strong business acumen and solutions orientated who can work independently
• Ability to demonstrate thought leadership
• Risk management and internal controls focused
• Must be able to work on complex issues of significant importance
• Ability to juggle substantial competing demands and adapt to evolving priorities a must
