Overview

In addition to our traditional payments portfolio, Mastercard is aggressively expanding into new payment flow and leveraging the digital and connected world of people and economies to deliver faster, reliable and more efficient propositions to make payments – send or receive money.
The Cross Border program is part of the wider Disbursement & Remittances business that we are looking to expand at a compounded rate of 50% per year for the next 5 years. We are building solutions to enable payments in an any-to-any format – anyone, anywhere can send or receive money using any channel – money exchanges, banks, digital wallets, cards or fintech apps – providing a seamless and unified experience for both individuals and business to move money.
We are looking for a passionate, innovative and experienced engineers with a proven track record in leading the evolution of software products and their implementation in various markets – comfortable both working hands-on as well as guiding and mentoring a team of engineers and critically always challenging the status quo and pushing and driving the technology roadmap to ensure that the solutions leverage technology to the maximum extent.
As the Principal, you will be responsible for setting the pace of the technology transformation for the business and a key enabler in building a platform that can not only grow for 25X in terms of volumes, but can also evolve to support new business use case and requirements that the Digital and Connected world is constantly enabling.

Role

As a Principal, Software Engineering at Mastercard, you will be expected to perform the following general duties:
• Own
• Own and shape the technology roadmap for the platform and drive adoption of evolving industry technology and architectures that deliver value to business
• Own the technology outcomes and deliver enhanced business value leveraging technology.
• Own the technology for a domain across all layers – application, data, infrastructure and security
• Do
• Define architecture and identify and implement systems taking all non-functional dimensions into context
• Leverage a strong domain understanding to design and implement extensible solutions
• Write code and participate in code and design review sessions
• Define and implement systems and processes to ensure fast and error-free release of features and capabilities
• Enable
• Guide and mentor engineers as well as your stakeholders on all things technology
• Support & actively collaborate with your engineering and product counterparts in ensuring the product propositions continue to evolve and meet both business and technology imperatives

All About You

Education
We encourage diverse educational backgrounds as long as they have helped you build skills and capabilities contribute to your expertise. A formal college experience is also valued.

Expertise
• Polygot with expertise on both .Net and Java technology stacks. Extensive .Net expertise is mandatory, given the core platform is built using .Net stack
• Experience in design and development of enterprise-grade scalable and resilient software solutions
• Experience in different architecture patterns – REST architectures, Event-driven architectures and a deep understanding of microservices and domain-driven principles
• Expertise in DevOps – with sound understanding of the internals and the design and implementation of CI/CD. Hands-on experience designing and building them is a plus
• Experience in Cloud-based solutions with a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and service considerations and experience is building cloud-native solutions
• Experience is evolving and migrating legacy solutions to Cloud is a key plus
• Experience is evergreening .Net solutions and migrating .Net to Java stack
• Experience is designing solutions for non-functional needs and expertise in instrumenting them to ensure both validations during the build phase as well as monitoring during the operational phase
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Has skills to succinctly articulate architecture patterns of complex systems, with business and technical implications, to executive and customer stakeholders

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
