Overview
Our Commercial and New Payment Flows (“CNPF”) organization is making payments smarter, businesses stronger with our commercial cards, working capital, and money movement solutions.
Mastercard is seeking an experienced lawyer to join our legal team to provide support to the Commercial and New Payment Flows team engaged in regional product development and sales across Eastern Europe Middle East and Africa (“EEMEA”).
Role
This Senior Counsel role requires strong commercial acumen, and experience in supporting new product development and commercialization activities in the financial or payments services space. The role will support the development and distribution of Commercial and New Payment Flows offerings, including drafting and negotiating contracts, regulatory and compliance assessments, and legal risk management related to multiple use cases in Account-to-Account payments, Remittances and cross-border payment platforms.
The key responsibilities for the role include:
• Partnering with product, sales, franchise, marketing, and other teams to develop and launch innovative products and solutions that differentiate Mastercard and meet our customers' rapidly changing needs.
• Structuring and negotiating a wide range of contracts (including complex technology agreements, customer and vendor agreements) to drive the adoption of Commercial and New Payment Flows products and services.
• Collaborating with in-house and external specialists (including regulatory, compliance, data protection, and intellectual property counsel) to identify relevant issues and help the business effectively navigate legal risks.
• Providing support to the Commercial and New Payment Flows business development teams to support product sales initiatives.
• Advising business on a wide range of commercial and contractual matters including legal and business risk assessments and providing analysis on diverse matters from new product constructs to commercial agreements.
• Taking responsibility for high profile projects while continuing to handle a steady stream of day-to-day matters.
• Ensuring compliance with Mastercard's policies and procedures and providing applicable training to the business.
• Managing external counsel within agreed policy and budget.

All About You
• Qualified senior lawyer with a solid academic and training background, qualified to practice law in one or more jurisdictions.
• Extensive transactional and product experience, preferably including both private practice and in-house roles.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing remittances, commercial banking, and general payments is highly desirable. A strong interest in emerging technologies and data privacy is advantageous.
• Proven ability to grasp complex business concepts and deliver pragmatic, risk-balanced legal solutions.
• Strong commercial acumen and refined communication skills, enabling effective engagement with internal stakeholders, external clients, and senior legal and business leadership.
• Advanced proficiency in drafting and negotiating sophisticated commercial agreements, with sharp attention to detail and the ability to identify and address key legal issues.
• Experience operating within a multinational organization, with demonstrated ability to navigate legal and business matters across diverse jurisdictions and time zones.
• Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills, sound commercial judgment, and a creative, solutions-oriented mindset to support a fast-paced sales business unit.
• A master's degree in law, technology, or a related field is advantageous.
