Title and Summary

Senior Counsel, Regulatory Overview
Mastercard's Global Regulatory Team is looking for a senior counsel to play an important role in its Regulatory function in Asia/Pacific. This role will report to the Senior Managing Counsel, Regulatory, Asia/Pacific. The role has specific focus on the supervision of Mastercard by Central Banks across South-East Asia and designations in the Asia/Pacific Region. This will involve a high degree of collaborative working with others across the Mastercard organization including business and functional group counterparts in and outside the Asia Pacific Region. The successful candidate will be part of a global group of legal and regulatory compliance specialists who cover regulatory in 210+ countries and territories under the leadership of Mastercard's General Counsel, Regulatory.

Role
Essential responsibilities in this role include:
• Acting as senior legal counsel in respect of Central Bank oversight and supervision including taking a significant role in relation to Mastercard's supervision by Central Banks in South-East Asia, designation of Mastercard in other Asia-Pacific markets and the application to Mastercard businesses of the Principles for Financial Market Infrastructures.
• Working with business and cross function counterparts in respect of the preparation of assessments, regulator engagement materials, updates, reports, and presentations arising as a result of supervision or designation.
• Working with teams in other geographical regions undertaking work of similar scope.
• Advising on payment system/payment scheme oversight more generally.
• Building out and maintaining strong relationships with key regulators.
• Building and maintaining a strong working knowledge of laws and regulatory themes relating to payments, banking/ financial services, data sovereignty, payment schemes across Asia Pacific.
• Managing outside counsel on relevant regulatory matters.
• Working in close collaboration with Mastercard's government affairs and policy, risk, technology, corporate security teams and other groups.
• Being a contributor to the broader activity of Mastercard's Global Regulatory Team under the supervision and direction of the Senior Managing Counsel as well as the Assistant General Counsel, Regulatory Asia/Pacific.

All About You
The successful candidate must have the following knowledge, skills and experience:
• At least 10 years PQE and graduate of an established and reputable university with a law degree.
• Track record of success in legal practice in fields drawn from technology, finance, corporate, commercial, and anti-trust at an international law firm, Central Bank and/or regulator which must include the regulation of financial services and/or payments.
• Experience of regulatory in a financial services or payments organization and knowledge of payment system regulation in South-East Asia.
• Experience of multi-national organizations and a track record that includes operating effectively within a diverse multicultural organization with the highest standards of personal integrity.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and preferably at least one other Asian language.
• Must demonstrate a proactive, time sensitive, results driven approach in carrying out all responsibilities.
