The RTP business is responsible for designing, building and operating industry-leading bank account-based payment systems. Our technology powers the account-to-account payment solutions which underpin many economies, including in the U.S., Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Peru, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the United Kingdom.

We are looking for a candidate who will be passionate about the payments business, highly motivated, intellectually curious, analytical, and possesses an entrepreneurial mindset.

This role will be based in the UK, Singapore, India or Malaysia but it will involve providing support across a number of jurisdictions, including Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, the US, Canada and Peru.

Key Aspects of the Role

• Anticipating the evolution of the applicable regulatory frameworks relevant to the RTP International business and monitoring for relevant regulatory change and working in close coordination with internal stakeholders in determining the impact of regulatory changes;

• Supporting regulatory assessments and other regulatory considerations for the RTP Global Product team and its product roadmap (e.g. A2A Protect), working closely with the overall legal lead for this team; including ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance post launch as we grow and scale;

• Partnering with RTP business stakeholders and second line colleagues to support responses to supervisory reviews and consultative responses on applicable proposed regulation;

• Providing incisive, business-friendly explanations and advice to senior management;

• Coordinating with regional Mastercard Regulatory colleagues to understand the regulatory environment in specific markets relevant to the RTP International business and RTP's global product portfolio;

• Building and maintaining a strong working knowledge of laws and regulatory themes relating to payments infrastructure, as well as broader banking and financial services;

• Being a tough and effective advocate for the RTP business through the coordination and drafting of submissions, talking points and other materials, to protect business interests and enhance the Mastercard brand;

• Managing outside counsel on relevant regulatory matters.

All About You

We're looking for a well-rounded professional who can work independently and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and get things done. You should be creative in solving challenges, with a focus on enabling the RTP business to succeed rather than simply “winning at any cost.”

You'll bring:

• A strong academic background with a law degree from a reputable university.

• Admission as a practising lawyer with a valid practising certificate and at least five years of post-admission experience.

• A proven track record in legal practice, ideally across regulatory, technology, finance, corporate, or commercial law.

• Experience in the Payments sector would be an advantage, though not essential.

• Previous in-house experience is also a plus.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a results-driven and time-sensitive approach to work.
