Title and Summary

Senior Vice President, Platform Engineering Overview:

Seeking a seasoned SVP with deep product development experience to lead our Real-Time Payments Platform Engineering. You'll drive technology strategies, aligning with our culture of speed and value creation. Your vision will shape the digital payments landscape, contributing significantly to the financial technology sector.
The SVP will be a key leader in the overall software strategy and will play a critical role in driving platform engineering. This role is pivotal in driving software strategy, ensuring high-quality products, and fostering collaboration across teams to achieve company goals. Ultimate accountability lies in application quality, security, performance, and adherence to engineering principles, with shared responsibility for overall product outcomes and KPIs.

• The SVP, Platform Engineering runs the Mastercard Real-time Payment Platform Engineering function and leads the engineering aspects of the platform program.
• Creates, develops and executes the Mastercard Real-time Payments Engineering strategy and plan.
• Proactively mobilizes, orchestrates, and accelerates complex initiatives with internal and external partners to ensure successful execution and completion.
• Develops deep understanding of customer, regulatory and market needs
• Owns the planning, execution, operations, and delivery, from inception to completion within schedule and budget, including the creation of the value proposition to address customer need.
• Develop the core platform, based on domain model, and ensure the team continue to maintain, and continuously improve robust and scalable software products.
• Ensure technical decisions align with the overall product strategy and business goals.
Responsibilities

• Working with EVP Real-time Payments Engineering, Product Lead, and senior management to define overall platform engineering and infrastructure strategy.
• Ensure Real-time Payments Engineering maintains reputation for technological, innovation and delivery excellence both internally in Mastercard and externally in the payments / financial services space.
• Develop and execute on a global Platform Engineering roadmap that is aligned with company objectives. Rationalizing all project estimates, timelines and manage overall technology pipeline.
• Advises on and develops the value prop to maximize target outcomes while minimizing cost and complexity, ensures cost-effective operations
• Ensure utilisation of team capacity is maximised through management of resources across engineering locations, domains, and programs.
• Develop, implement, and monitor technical best practices, processes, and standards to ensure quality in all Platform Engineering activities – functional, non-functional & security assurance, and responsible for ensuring quality of all engineering outputs, including but not limited to run stage and long-term product health and modernization, to achieve target business outcomes on time and budget.
• Ensure collaboration across Mastercard Real-time payment and TECH teams.
• Facilitate the successful handover of qualifying initiatives from global engineering into market facing groups.
• Ensure all projects are completed on time, on budget and to world class standards.
• Continue to enhance development processes, tools, standards with focus on the best possible developer experience enabling engineers to do their best work.
• Actively engages with product team to develop and iterate outcomes, consistent with and as a champion of agile work practices.
• Ensures product development adherence to MA Technology Policy, architecture, and shared services/interoperability guidelines
• Ensure effective collaboration with technical partners (internal departments, external partners, Universities)

Team & Performance
• Overall responsibility for the team, including Leading the continued development of a high-performing engineering and infrastructure organization through the recruitment, training, and retention of top technical talent, and develops and “raises the bar” on quality engineering talent.
• Build team culture that consistently demonstrates alignment with The Mastercard Way
• Continuously monitor and analyse key performance indicators for your own organization and your broader departmental score cards and move them in a positive direction.
• Engages relevant partners (Architecture, Services, BizOps, ONE, etc.) in assessing feasibility of and improving upon product value proposition

About You:

• Extensive experience in building and leading successful agile technology groups including platform engineering, architecture, infrastructure, and delivery.
• Ability to successfully exhibit accountability end to end for a Program, product development and management, consistent with Mastercard engineering principles and standards, working closely with the relevant partners, especially within Product. Inspiring teams to work collaboratively across the broader eco-system.
• Relentless focus on the customer, getting closer to the customer, developing an outside in approach, understanding their needs and driving product value
• Extensive experience in developing and delivering innovative payment products or solutions in the commerce space.
• Proven track record in driving concepts through to commercialization
• Proven ability to influence decision making internally and externally.
• Very strong technical architecture, project management and excellent customer facing skills.
