Title and Summary
Vice President Government Affairs & Policy, Brazil Overview:Manage Mastercard's relationships with government and key policymakers in the Brazil Division and lead the implementation of strategies for enhancing relationships among Mastercard executives and policymakers, ultimately for the purpose of promoting the company's future growth in the sub-region and its ability to keep operating under a sound public policy framework. Develop opportunities and mitigate threats on key policy areas, which involves working with external stakeholders, and leading alliances and partnerships.
Role:
• Develop and implement policy-related strategic plans for key issues areas in the Brazil Division of LAC, considering the competitive environment, key customers and global perspectives so as to protect and build corporate reputation while enhancing business opportunities/mitigating threats.
• Interpret and influence the policy environment relating to key political, regulatory, economic developments in the financial services sector generally, with a focus on issues related to payments, financial inclusion, digital economy, competition policy, among others.
• Assist in development and execution of Mastercard executives' outreach to policymakers, ensuring that external government relations are well choreographed. Represent the company before executive branch agencies, legislative bodies, regulatory authorities, in coordination with other internal teams. To do so, identify and ensure current awareness of key external constituencies, including Governmental & Non-Governmental Organizations and key opinion leaders that may have a positive/negative impact on our business.
• Work closely with outside consultants responsible for helping develop the strategy and supporting the execution of the strategy.
• Partner with key constituents (internal/external) to determine the most appropriate direction for building relationships and avoiding harmful legislative or regulatory action. Identify potential threats and opportunities; seek to build alliances and coalitions with key customers and other interested third parties, where appropriate.
• Manage multidimensional projects across business units/region, successfully navigating throughout the organization to partner effectively with individuals from other departments and deliver results.
• The position will be accountable for identifying, convening and leading internal work groups to evaluate impact of public policy decisions, and/or to analyze pending proposals and associated business and logistical implications; as well as provide updates and communications on prospective and pending regulatory and legislative proposals and policy issues, and the surrounding political landscape to the global Government Affairs & Policy team and senior management.
• Support Legal Department in managing the timely submission of regulatory filings and developing responses to regulatory requests in a strategic manner, in accordance with internal processes and procedures.
• Frequent travel is required, primarily within LAC Brazil Division, to meet with policymakers, businesspeople and customers.
All About You:
• Extensive experience working in public policy, legislative, or government affairs positions in a corporate, association, or governmental context (preferably in the payments industry or financial services sector).
• Possess good judgment, a creative approach to problem-solving and the ability to function as a team player.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must possess strong interpersonal skills, be a team player, and show appreciation of diverse cultural methods of working and doing business.
• Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Portuguese, and the ability to work well with business partners across the Brazil Division, the United States and with colleagues in other LAC Divisions and world regions.
• Demonstrate a proactive, time-sensitive, results driven approach in carrying out all duties, obligations, and responsibilities. Thorough, meticulous and attentive to detail but nevertheless able to prioritize, focus on the important rather than just urgent matters and get the job done. Must be able to contribute and operate effectively within a diverse multicultural organization.
