Overview
The Mastercard Direct Services team (“MCDS”) is the dynamic B2B sales arm of Mastercard, committed to nurturing and developing business with high-potential customers across the European region & beyond. Our approach is to develop small customers, size does not matter for us, we grow prospects and transfer mature, prepared and healthy partners to the local offices.

MCDS is part of Market Development Europe which is the engine of European growth by winning in non-traditional segments while anticipating and shaping European market transformation. There are 5 domains to deliver this: Merchants and Commerce, Digital Partners, Public Sector, Mastercard Direct Services and Mastercard Processing (MPE). These domains provide diversification, huge growth opportunities and ensure we continue to adapt our business model to new realities.

MCDS are looking for a Vice President, Sales Leader + Business Development to lead a dynamic team of payment leaders at the forefront of fostering relationships and executing business development activities within Central Europe, South Eastern Europe and Western Europe. This role will report directly into the Senior Vice President, MCDS, and is responsible for driving Core Payments, Commercial & New Payments Flow, Services and brand preference.

This role will work alongside another Vice President, Sales Leader + Business Development who has a geographical responsibility for United Kingdom & Ireland and Northern Europe.

Role
In this client-facing position, you will be required to:
- Drive commerce within Central Europe, South Eastern Europe and Western Europe by identifying opportunities for clients to originate more payment flows on Mastercard rails whilst also securing Mastercard's future, through diversification of revenues through cross-sales and driving adoption of the next generation of digital payments, (core business & acceptance), new flows (commercial and non-card flows), and Services.
- Motivate a high-performing business development & account management team by providing the challenge, inspiration and support required to build a deeper understanding of our customers in-order to demand the solutions that will deliver success.
- Build the external and internal relationships that are required to elevate our relationships with customers and navigate the Mastercard organisation to ensure our customers' needs are understood and met.
- Set a great example and empower all to be confident in envisaging solutions that help our customers. Be meticulous with our research on customers; be curious and ask great questions to build a picture of where our solutions can play a role; and be prepared to leverage your internal network and understand Mastercard's solutions well enough to join the dots.
- Be commercially creative. Provide the vision required to help the team see the opportunities that exist within the customer base – have a nose for a deal and be able to visualize the business case for our customers and Mastercard. Importantly being able to articulate this effectively to take customers and colleagues on the journey with you.
- Demonstrate insight & rigor: Actively encourage the team to use tools that exist to be better at their jobs and to foster the support that they need from the wider organisation. See analysis of transactional data as an opportunity to share insights that tell a customer something new, and helping the team to use lead gen and pipeline management tools to boost productivity and improve the way we position our solutions to different types of customers and buyer.

A Communicator: Able to build credibility with senior level customers to elevate our relationships and leverage your network within the internal organisation, to provide your team with the support that they need to be truly empowered. The delivery & utilisation of all aspects of SFDC including, Quarterly Business Review, Product Penetration, Cross-X Tool and P&L management

Truly Customer-Centric: It is desirable to possess a deep knowledge of some or all of the customers that we serve, but most important is having the energy and desire to really get to know their industries, businesses and committed to continuously developing this knowledge, and inspiring your teams to do the same.

Smart & Curious: Possessing the ability to understand an array of customers, industries and solutions, and having the curiosity required to keep developing this knowledge, setting the example for your teams and educating the wider Mastercard organization along the way.

Analytical & an Experienced Negotiator: Financially savvy – capable of interpreting sets of data to derive insights and comfortable building business cases. Possessing experience of negotiating major agreements with customers to provide the oversight and coaching required to guide your team through such processes from inception to signature.

- Some degree of travel anticipated
- Primary location is Madrid, Spain however other European locations may be considered
