Title and Summary
Vice President, Software Engineering OverviewThe Platform Services group is responsible for designing, building, and operating the technology that powers Mastercard's market-facing and core technology platforms. This includes foundational services such as the API Gateway, Event Gateway, and File Transfer Services.
We are seeking a Vice President, Software Engineering to join our St. Louis team, focusing on building and operating our Global File Transfer platform. This platform supports secure, seamless data transfers across Mastercard's global infrastructure—including Mastercard's next-generation switch.
This is an exciting senior engineering leadership role within a globally distributed team, passionate about delivering resilient, scalable solutions to our customers.
Role
In this role, you will:
• Drive collaboration across engineering, product management, enterprise functions, and regional business teams.
• Define the technical strategy, architecture, design, and execution for delivering an end-to-end File Transfer Management solution that scales with business needs.
• Lead engineering teams with a strong focus on nonfunctional requirements—including reliability, performance, scalability, and security.
• Champion an operational mindset, ensuring systems are robust, observable, and maintainable.
• Drive change management initiatives across engineering and cross-functional teams, balancing innovation with risk mitigation.
• Establish and enforce engineering standards, governance models, and operational excellence practices.
• Mentor and develop engineering leaders, fostering a culture of accountability, resilience, and continuous improvement.
• Manage relationships with external vendors and technology partners, ensuring alignment with Mastercard's engineering standards, delivery timelines, and strategic goals.
All About You
Technology Expertise
• Experience working across distributed and mainframe technology stacks
• Deep experience with Java and event-driven architectures..
• Strong understanding of platform observability, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience with Java, Shell Scripting, SQL
• Mainframe technologies including COBOL and advantage
Ideal Candidate Profile
• Proven experience leading large-scale engineering organizations with a focus on platform operations.
• Deep understanding of nonfunctional engineering disciplines and how they impact business outcomes.
• Demonstrated success in change management, especially in environments undergoing transformation or consolidation.
• Strong communicator and systems thinker, able to influence across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience managing vendor relationships, including contract negotiation, performance oversight, and integration with internal teams.
