Overview Of Position

This position will lead the development and execution of category strategy for the Co-Manufacturer. The Category Manager will have responsibility for leading & managing direct material sourcing and supply risk management to support the Company's production, Procurement-related product change management, and support flawless and timely implementation of the project plan and internal stakeholder expectations.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Maintains effective links with global stakeholders, manufacturing sites and core suppliers
  2. Provides strategic sourcing services and leads specific category projects related to raw materials/ingredients, execute specific cost reduction targets and strategies
  3. Rationalize and business continuity planning reducing risk with secondary suppliers qualified and under contract
  4. Understands the impact of strategies on the future requirements of the category areas, and ensure the strategy delivers ‘best value' based on a combination of quality, service and cost, and that the strategic sourcing process is applied consistently and appropriately
  5. Supports periodic supplier business reviews that includes criteria to measure supplier performance in terms of cost, risk, stakeholder satisfaction, technical support, supplier delivery/quality performance, investment, and continuous improvement
  6. Perform market analysis in identifying best cost country sourcing of said category, provide guidance to technical sourcing and engineering with supplier innovations, and proactively develop forward buy agreements where appropriate
  7. Uses consistent strategic sourcing processes and e-procurement tools (such as reverse auctioning) and understands the best applications for the use of specific tools.
  8. Support improvement to existing processes, systems, practices, and procedures.
  9. Leads cross-functional teams in the identification of alternative materials and suppliers, facilitate qualification trials
  10. Responsible for ensuring compliance with FDA and adhering to cGMP from a procurement standpoint and ensuring import compliance with all materials imported. Establish trade compliance as it pertains to transportation and import of goods with logistics leads from Medifast and the vendor.
  11. Leads business improvement initiatives across programs of work to ensure that the strategic goals of the business and Procurement are met.
  12. Provide information and impact assessments to the Dir. of Procurement & Finance department.
  13. Supports, coaches and involves team members in implementing SQF improvements and driving attainment of sustainability/responsible sourcing goals.
  14. Support new and on-going supplier quality audit activities to ensure the supply base has robust process controls and capabilities to meet existing and future business requirements
  15. Additional duties as assigned

Scope

Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities

  • BS/BA degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or other relevant degree program. Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of procurement/sourcing experience, preferably in ingredient or raw materials. 
  • Experience in commodities hedging, raw material management and ingredient categories
  • Proven background in supplier management, category strategy development/execution, contract negotiations and manufacturing operations with demonstrated success
  • Broad-based understanding of logistics operations and practices and core Procurement areas of focus (Strategic Sourcing, Spend Management / Pricing / Benchmarking, Category Management and Supplier Management). 
  • Knowledge of value chain mapping, sourcing flow from ideation, to qualification process to consumer launch.
  • Multi-country and Multi-sector experience preferred with experience across geographies of varied sizes and businesses.
  • Strong Leadership, Influencing, Collaboration and Communication/Presentation skills are required.
  • Able to prioritize requests and propose cost effective/customer focused alternatives when necessary.
  • Pro-active with the ability to show creativity/innovation in developing new approaches and resolving issues.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and facilitate coordination of large matrixed and/or virtual teams.
  • Well organized, highly numerate with strong attention to detail and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and data management skills. Highly proficient in Excel/Knowledge or Sourcing Tools (e.g. Coupa).
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) with excellent communication & negotiation skills (written and verbal).
  • Change management and process/continuous improvement expertise
  • Excellent presentation skills: Six Sigma or Lean Certification preferred.
