General Summary of Position
In coordination with other Chaplains provides spiritual care to patients families and staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Communicates with hospital staff regarding the ministry in the hospital. Collaborates with members of the hospital care team in identifying and resolving problems. With other Chaplains acts as a liaison between patient family and hospital staff during periods of crisis for example difficult surgery outcomes or patients in process of dying.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Ensures that pertinent information regarding faith denomination parish/congregation and date of anointing are properly entered into the computer. Ensures that documentation is performed in accordance with the policy and procedure of the individual hospital.
  • Evaluates patient needs for spiritual guidance and counseling and initiates or recommends individual programs and services to meet those needs. Cooperates with healthcare team in assisting patient to make personal adjustments.
  • Follows departmental schedule providing coverage for patient care as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Prepares and communicates any necessary reports the Director/Manager.
  • Provides for specific needs of individual faiths by fostering an ecumenical approach to hospital ministry.
  • Responsible for carrying out assignments of the Director.
  • Minimal Qualifications
    Education
    • Associate's degree required or
    • equivalent educational background in theology pastoral counseling required or
    • religious studies. required
    Experience
    • Less than 1 year Parish ministry or other pastoral ministry experience preferably in a hospital/healthcare setting. required
    Licenses and Certifications
    • If a priest minister required or
    • nun ordained by recognized religious body and endorsed by the proper ecclesiastical authority. required and
    • If a layperson endorsed by the proper ecclesiastical authority. required
    Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    • Counseling communication and listening skills.
    • Some expertise in the ethical/moral field.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.

    This position has a hiring range of

    USD $49,192.00 - USD $87,422.00 /Yr.
