The General Surgery Advanced Practice Provider is a key member of the surgical team, providing high-quality, comprehensive care to surgical patients under the supervision of four attending surgeons. This role requires a hard-working, dedicated professional to manage the inpatient surgical service, ensuring seamless continuity of care from admission to discharge. The APP acts as a vital liaison between the surgeons, the nursing staff, and other multidisciplinary colleagues.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Consultations & Admissions: Conduct comprehensive evaluations of new consults in the Emergency Department and on medical floors. Perform detailed history and physical (H&P) exams, establish diagnoses, and initiate surgical management plans.
- Inpatient Rounding: Perform daily morning rounds on all surgical patients. Monitor clinical status, review laboratory and diagnostic imaging, and adjust treatment plans in collaboration with the attending surgeons.
- Documentation: Maintain timely and accurate electronic medical records (EMR), including admission orders, daily progress notes, consult notes, and discharge summaries.
- Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for the surgical service. Provide regular, concise updates to the 4 attending surgeons and collaborate effectively with hospitalists, intensivists, and nursing staff.
- Clinical Procedures: Perform bedside procedures as needed (e.g., wound debridement, suture/staple removal, incision and drainage, and drain management).
- Patient Education: Discuss surgical diagnoses, proposed procedures, and post-operative care plans with patients and their families to ensure informed consent and high satisfaction.
Job Requirements:
- Completion and graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program
- CPR certification required
- 1-2 years inpatient experience - preferred
