About the Job

General Summary of Position
Provides comprehensive or episodic evaluation of patients such as history and physicals as well as providing care to assigned patients. Assesses diagnoses documents findings. Writes medical orders and/or prescriptions. Makes clinical decisions relative to patient management through collaboration with physicians. May assist/perform surgical procedures.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Assists in providing care. Writes appropriate order sets including medications. Assists physician in emergent events by being familiar with appropriate locations of emergency equipment and following physician instructions to render appropriate clinical support to the physician.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other clinical staff to ensure practice needs are met by taking call performing stress testing and/or triaging patient calls to maintain quality patient care.
  • Communicates positive laboratory and diagnostic findings to patients and referring physician to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Develops treatment plan and discusses proposed course of treatment with patient's attending physician and other health care team members as appropriate to include consultants and referrals.
  • Establishes medical diagnoses for common short-term or chronic stable health problems and prescribe medication as appropriate by following practice and/or hospital policies and procedures to render appropriate clinical support to the patients.
  • Monitor's patients and communicates significant patient findings to the changes in patients' status or appropriate physician. Obtains detailed and accurate history performs physical examinations and reviews medical records to assess patient's health status.
  • Maintains a regulatory/compliance environment by following organizational policies and procedures to ensure compliance to state local and federal standards and regulations.
  • Maintains a safe office environment by following practice policies and procedures to ensure office is in full compliance with OSHA practices.
  • Orders and reviews laboratory testing interpreting results adjusting medications and contacting patients to effectively monitor and coordinate their care as indicated.
  • Provides emotional and educational support to patient and family as may be appropriate. Performs procedures as appropriate for patient care.
  • Provides continuity of patient care for practice patients between appointments and after hospitalization acting as liaison between patient and physician to coordinate the effective transmission of patient related information.
  • Provides hospital rounding surgical assistance hospital admission and discharge dictation of upcoming hospital procedures and electronic hospital medical record entry when assigned to facilitate efficient and quality patient care. Writes progress notes on patients' medical record indicating patient status treatment and procedures performed.
  • Supports the charge nurse team nurse staff residents and faculty preceptors by assisting in the coordination of patient care and patient flow on the teams and mentoring.
  • Radiology locations: Assists and performs services including (but not limited to): CT and Ultrasound guided biopsies Thoracentesis and paracentesis Tunneled and non-tunneled central venous catheter placement and replacement (both dialysis and non-dialysis) Implanted port placement Venograms of upper and lower extremities Administration and monitoring of conscious sedation and Abscess drain insertion and abscess follow ups.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program. required and
  • Bachelor's degree required and
  • Master's degree preferred

Experience

  • 1-2 years Related experience; specialty experience may be preferred based on location. required

Licenses and Certifications

  • PA - Physician Assistant NCCPA (National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants) certification. required and
  • Current license with the Maryland Board of Physicians required and
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated effective communication and problem-solving skills.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $115,000.00 - USD $143,619.00 /Yr.
