General Summary of Position


Serves as a multi-site resource technologist in one or two specialized areas. Troubleshoots technical and service problems; monitors and reviews quality control (Q.C.) and performance improvement (P.I.) data; performs special projects; and assists the supervisor with other administrative and technical functions as directed. Performs a variety of routine and special laboratory procedures in one or more laboratory sections; evaluates and reports results for use in patient diagnosis and treatment. 

 

Working hours for this role will be weekdays (Monday-Friday) from 7:30am - 4:00 p.m.  Multisite Responsibilities (Medstar Good Samaritan Hospital and Medstar Union Memorial Hospital).

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Oversees lab responsibilities at multiple-sites and may assume the duties of the supervisor in the event of his/her absence.
  • Monitors and reviews daily quality control (Q.C.) and performance improvement (P.I.) data to confirm that tolerance limits are not exceeded. Investigates Q.C./P.I. problems and implements corrective actions. Performs CAP surveys and evaluates survey results; investigates survey failures and recommends corrective action.
  • Monitors maintains and oversees laboratory equipment and supplies in assigned area(s) of responsibility. Assures that preventive and corrective maintenance is performed and documented.
  • Performs a wide variety of routine and special procedures following prescribed protocol and using manual or automated methods; calculates and reports results as established; consults with pathologist regarding difficult analysis or abnormal findings.
  • Performs special projects and method validation for new instruments and procedures. Develops and updates technical procedures as required.
  • Provides leadership and technical information laboratory staff in assigned area(s).
  • Trains new associates and students. Instructs others in new procedures; evaluates and documents performance. Performs other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Troubleshoots technical and service problems pertaining to collection of the specimen laboratory data instrumentation and results reporting both in the lab and on the bedside units.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Minimal Qualifications


Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or closely related field, required.  

Experience

  • Minimum of three years experience working in a clinical laboratory setting, required.  

Licenses and Certifications

  • ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist ASCP or equivalent certification, highly preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of various computer software applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $42.82 - USD $78.27 /Hr.
