General Summary of Position

Job Summary:  

MedStar Health is looking for a Community Health Educator to join our team! 

The Community Health Educator Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements activities related to community health education and provides evidence-based best practices for health education. Collaborates and interacts with internal departments and community partners to strengthen health outcomes for MedStar Family Choice Members. Works in partnership with local communities to design, implement, and evaluate health promotion, prevention and education programs.

Primary Duties:  

  • Develops and delivers comprehensive health education programs for DC Medicaid enrollees, promoting health literacy, self-efficacy, and behavior change through interactive communication and learning opportunities.
  • Facilitates and staffs community-based health education classes, wellness events, support groups, and New Member Orientations to improve community and individual health outcomes.
  • Collaborates with Community Outreach Coordinators and other health professionals to promote preventive care, coordinate services, and connect enrollees to needed health resources and programs.
  • Creates and curates educational content, including health materials, web resources, and promotional tools, tailored to various age groups and community health needs.
  • Serves as a liaison between members and healthcare services, resolving inquiries, supporting benefit plan understanding, and strengthening the member-provider relationship.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in public health (Required) or
  • 1-2 years- 2 years of experience in adult education/training and established relationships with community organizations, civic leaders, faith-based organizations, and political leaders, preferably in the District of Columbia. (Required)

 

Licenses/Certification:

·        Agreement to obtain designated certifications (lactation) based on department needs. (Required) and

·        CPR- Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days (Required) and

·        Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit. (Required) and

·        Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) (Preferred)

This position has a hiring range of $60,632 - $107,494
