General Summary of Position
Assists departmental clinical personnel with the technical and maintenance responsibilities for unit medical equipment and with administrative and other duties as assigned. Will serve as team lead and trainer for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine, and Pediatric Transplant. Individuals will also participate in coverage of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine, Pediatric Transplant, and Adult Endoscopy.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Performs maintenance of all endoscopes including inspection, leak testing, cleaning, high level disinfecting, and identifying needed repairs. Follows established protocols for reprocessing endoscopes and accessories and for storing the equipment; cleans, prepares, and transports equipment and accessories to a central sterile for processing, and returns sterilized equipment to the proper area.
  • Monitors and documents potency testing and expiration date of disinfecting solution as required by institutional policy; assists with annual measurement of disinfecting solution vapor levels in the processing area; maintains adequate disinfecting solution in automated washers/disinfectors and ultrasonic cleaning machine; stores and disposes of disinfecting solution according to institutional policy.
  • Provides in-service training and education to appropriate hospital personnel regarding the cleaning, maintenance, and proper operation of endoscopic equipment and accessories; initiates, coordinates, and documents competency training as appropriate.
  • Assists physicians and RN's with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (ERCP, stent placement, sphincterotomy, insertion of nasal biliary drains, lithotripsy, stone removal) including setting up equipment, providing the technical support, assisting with breaking down of equipment after the procedure, logging/transporting lab and pathology specimens.
  • Provides assistance to the clinical staff with formulating, recommending, implementing, monitoring, and controlling equipment budgets as directed and provides all required documentation.
  • Assists with equipment repairs, scheduling routine maintenance, and safety checks, arranging for loaner equipment, researching costs related to repairs, and maintaining documentation of equipment repair expenditures, and safety checks as assigned.
  • Assists with maintaining, evaluating, troubleshooting, and performing onsite adjustments/repairs for all technical equipment and accessories (i.e. C-arm, electrocautery devices, patient monitors, video systems, and components) as assigned.
  • Identifies/monitors/orders/distributes all supplies and stock items, including all equipment requests, endoscopy supplies (i.e. ERCP supplies and all equipment needed for therapeutic procedures and off unit procedure carts).
  • Assists in the maintenance and use of the patient database system; provides an orientation to staff and troubleshooting skills and assists in daily backup of the system.
  • Maintains video library.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED and 2 yrs of training/education in electronics, biomedical engineering, or a related field required or
    • CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO AN APPROPRIATE COMBINATION OF EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE required

    Experience

    • 1-2 years Hospital experience which includes experience with electrical and audiovisual medical equipment required and
    • Previous experience in a special procedure setting or operating room desirable required and
    • General office management experience in a hospital setting and previous experience in gastroenterology preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • No special certification, registration or licensure required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to work with, maintain, and conduct minor repairs of sophisticated medical equipment.
    • Knowledge of laser technology.
    • Ability to work independently in a high-stress environment.
    • Computer literacy and an ability to work with computerized systems.
    • Good interpersonal skills.


    This position has a hiring range of $22.48 - $39.75
