General Summary of Position
Responsible for onsite and virtual wellness coaching for nurses and nursing teams members across the MedStar Health system. Nurse wellness coaches promote and facilitate personal and professional growth, healing, and wellbeing of the whole person. Provides availability for one on one and group interactions to promote wellness in dealing with stress, burnout, trauma, and fatigue. Serves to promote engagement, retention, morale, and positive communications through training on stress management strategies, self-care, supportive prevention strategies, and other wellbeing modalities. The position is responsible for establishing, tracking, and reporting metrics specific to these activities and integrates wellbeing activities within the framework of the MedStar Health Center for Wellbeing.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interacts with the nurses/nursing team members across the system on a routine schedule to promote wellness coaching services.
  • Offers coaching for individuals and groups to support wellbeing in both personal and professional settings.
  • Develops care and coaching plans that include wellness goals and objectives.
  • Teaches classes on stress management, burnout prevention, Care for the Caregiver, and wellness strategies to help optimize positive habits that support health and wellbeing.
  • Integrates with the system wellbeing steering committee.
  • Supports engagement and retention of nurses through interactions and programs, to include professional opportunities across the MedStar Health system.
  • Guides recipients to access crisis support and/or mental health services as appropriate.
  • Acts as a liaison to EAP provider.
  • Ensures coordination, synergy and integration with system wide associate wellness activities supported through the wellbeing initiative.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.
  • Reports data related to activities and outcomes back to the system wellbeing lead. Revises offerings based on analysis and feedback.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required and
    • Master's degree in Nursing or related field preferred and
    • Must have Nurse Coach Certification upon hire or be willing to obtain within the first year of employment. required

    Experience

    • 5-7 years 7 years nursing experience required and
    • Experience with wellbeing interventions, coaching, employee assistance programs (EAP), and/or interventions for occupational stress management. required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current RN license in the state or jurisdiction of the facility seeking employment. Upon Hire required and
    • Coaching certification as appropriate. Upon Hire required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to provide a supportive environment to facilitate confidential conversations, knowledge of effective strategies and interventions for occupational stress.
    • Must be able to work independently and in a team setting.
