Organ Procurement Surgeon MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute
The world-class transplant surgery program at the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute is seeking Organ Procurement Surgeons to join our abdominal surgery program. The surgeons will be appointed as a Clinical Associate with excellent compensation, comprehensive benefits package, and a collegial work environment.
  MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute currently performs over 400 transplants annually, with both our Liver and Kidney transplant services being among the busiest in the region. We are expanding our services with the completion of the Verstandig Pavilion. This state-of-the-art facility features a 52-bed dedicated transplant unit to provide ICU and IMC care, four dedicated Transplant Operating Rooms, and back-table - perfusion services support. This allows a unique opportunity to advance technical skills and gain operative experience in solid organ transplantation.
Clinical responsibilities include:

  • Evaluation of transplant organs and organ procurement, including DCD Liver and Kidney procurement.
  • Participation in Liver and Kidney machine perfusion.
  • Opportunity to lead/manage and develop the Liver and Kidney transplant preservation team.
  • Become proficient in the multiversal and Intestinal procurement.
  • Opportunity to participate in research.

Requirements:
  • Previous surgical experience with Liver and Kidney procurement.
  • Graduate of a US ACGME-accredited General Surgery Residency, ASAT Certified Abdominal Transplant Surgery Fellowship.
  • International applicants (if from a non-accredited program) must have a minimum of 2-3 years of fellowship experience in the United States and be fluent in English.
  • Eligible for District of Columbia Medical Licensure
  • Interest in education and research are highly valued
  • Candidates must possess strong surgical skills, exceptional collaboration, and communication skills.
