MedStar Health is looking for a Radiation Therapy Technologist to join our MedStar RadAmerica team!  

As a Radiation Therapy Technologist, you will administer radiation therapy treatments, perform simulation procedures, and assist in the planning of radiation therapy treatments. Documents all aspects of patient treatment in medical records. Supports the Chief Therapist and Technical Director in implementing new policies and procedures and attaining departmental and organizational goals. Primary Duties: 

  • Records simulation, treatment delivery, and billing. Utilizes the QA Checklist function. Runs the Contingency Report. Schedules simulation and treatment procedures. Provides patients with initial appointment and treatment calendar. Resolves treatment schedule conflicts. Ensure all simulation and treatment schedules are resolved at the end of the day. Evaluates missed appointments with patients or family and documents missed appointments in the EMR (Electronic Medical Record). Keeps treatment/CT simulator rooms and console areas organized and stocked. Notifies chief therapist of technical supplies needed. Reports all treatment units/simulator malfunctions to the physicist/ engineer and documents all malfunctions/faults in the problem log.  

  • Participates in meetings/ committees and represents the department/ hospital in community outreach efforts. Sends evaluations to immediate supervisor. Actively participates in QA procedures by ensuring all aspects of weekly chart review are completed. Performs dose verification according to protocol and documents. Verifies and records SSD's weekly. Acquires all necessary patient imaging on all patients as prescribed by the physician. Ensures charts are accurate and complete. 

  • Operates the CT (Computed Tomography) simulator and necessary equipment. Demonstrates ability to perform morning quality assurance procedure, emergency shutdown procedure, and follows guidelines of the operation manuals for the CT Scanner. Performs HDR, and Mold Room duties. Performs urethrograms, oral, and IV Contrast (Auto Injectors). Consistently performs Time Out procedure and educates patient on what to expect during the simulation procedure. Fabricates immobilization devices. Verifies all consent forms are signed, witnessed, and dated prior to any procedure being performed. Completes all appropriate documentation, photographs & associations, QCL, and appropriate billing.  

  • Documents symptoms or problems. Promotes a patient friendly environment and demonstrates concern for patient comfort. Treats patients and family members with courtesy/ respect. Notifies the physician and/or nursing staff whenever the patient cancels a treatment appointment, and documents reason in the EMR. Performs document scanning. Assists in training of new therapy staff, including students. Completes all necessary student/visitor forms and forwards them to the technical director. Completes all student clinical evaluations.  

  • Operates the linear accelerator(s). Demonstrates proficiency in setup and administration of radiation therapy. Performs morning quality assurance procedures, emergency shutdown procedures and follows guidelines on the operation manuals. Administers radiation therapy treatments according to safety guidelines. Provides patient education by reinforcing the physician's advice regarding skin care, diet, treatment side effects, and reactions. Provides patients with education on what to expect during treatment. Consistently performs the Time- Out procedure. Performs hand calculations / adCalc dose verifications. 

Qualifications:  

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy Technology. 

  • Maryland Board of Physicians License 'O' as a Radiation Therapist, or ASRT - Radiation Therapist 'M' Licensed as a Radiation Therapist and Radiographer.  

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT Certification).  

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification with AED.  

  • Must maintain Maryland CE Continuing Educational Requirements (24 CE Credits/2 years).
